Graham wants Goss confirmed quickly
listening to him on Randi Rhodes rerun; he praised him in a most fulsome manner....no mention of the DNA/investo comment. Randi was too much in his thrall to say ANYthing about what a squid Goss is

just blew his cred with me

what's the deal with him meeting with that ISI guy on Sept 11, too?

who was the other guy?

was it Goss?

I skimmed over Paul Thompson's site on that yesterday, and have seen it mentioned myriad times, but there doesn't seem to be much discussion on the substance of that visit?

anything up to date on that?

thx

1. Yes this bothers me too

Graham must have some ghosts in his own closet that he needs to hide? I still don't understand, why Graham and Goss were eating breakfast on 9-11 with the guy, who just gave Mohamed Atta $100,000 the week before? Makes you wonder who Graham is protecting, especially since he so willing to point the finger at the Saudis and maintain the party line about al Qaeda.

3. to be fair, one of the things I came across cast some doubt
about whether that 100 K actually changed hands

not to say I don't believe the caveat: how can anyone know WHAT to believe about anything these days?

nothing surprises me, but the fact that the two of them were meeting with him sure is ironic, isn't it?

the stuff in his book about the Saudi connection to the two highjackers is explosive, though not new, by any stretch

Paul Thompson has a LONG explication of that scene in his timeline. That's what I skimmed yesterday, among other things, as I was surfing about, ISO what I don't even remember now.

Going out later to buy his book

everybody should get that one

how come no pub on THAT?

it's going to be remembered as seminal down the road. that's if we're allowed to maintain examples of the real history of this era.

2. just a reminder
re: Michael Moore's clip of Goss saying he's not qualified to be an agent

''Moore told Reuters that Goss, who until Tuesday was chairman of the House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, granted an interview to two of his producers without first checking to see who they worked for.

"You'd think the person who was the head of the intelligence committee would ask a few more questions," said Moore.

"The reality is that Porter Goss was in charge of the oversight of the CIA during a time when the CIA didn't do its job, which in part resulted in the loss of lives of 3,000 people," he said via telephone from New York.''

4. i think it has to do with the Florida Senate election
he doesn't want it to hurt Castor from taking his senate position by dividing florida . and maybe partly has to do with presidential election also.

5. salon on Goss/Graham/Massoud meeting
http://dir.salon.com/politics/feature/2001/09/14/human_spies/index.html

note the date

interesting article, which is mainly about the need for a new intelligence czar, and about how our intel agents need to be more in the mold of the Guatemalan who KILLED the husband of Jennifer Harbury, cause it's a mean and nasty world, and that we can protect ourselves from the terrorists by becoming Nazis ourselves

welcome to the brave new world

here's a quote from one of our favorites:

On Thursday, however, former President George H.W. Bush, who once served as CIA director, said that "human intelligence is kind of a dirty business. And in it, you have to deal with unsavory people. But if we're going to provide the president with the best possible intelligence, we have to free up the intelligence system from some of its constraints."

6. this is interesting
http://www.billstclair.com/911timeline/2001/news091001.html

most interesting thing is the DATE....sept 10, 2001

ISI Chief Lt-Gen Mahmood's week-long presence in Washington has triggered speculation about the agenda of his mysterious meetings at the Pentagon and National Security Council. Officially, State Department sources say he is on a routine visit in return to CIA Director George Tenet's earlier visit to Islamabad. Official sources confirm that he met Tenet this week. He also held long parleys with unspecified officials at the White House and the Pentagon. But the most important meeting was with Mark Grossman, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. US sources would not furnish any details beyond saying that the two discussed 'matters of mutual interests.'

What those matters could be is a matter of pure conjecture. One can safely guess that the discussions must have centred around Afghanistan, relations with India and China, disarmament of civilian outfits, country's nuclear and missiles programme and, of course, Osama Bin Laden.

7. WTF? Goss is Cheney's fucking puppet!
Why the HELL does Graham want Goss...?

Hmmm. Could it have anything to do with this?

http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timeline.jsp?timeline=complete_911_timeline&startpos=650#a091101ahmadmeeting

September 11, 2001 (H)

At the time of the attacks, ISI Director Lt. Gen. Mahmood Ahmed is at a breakfast meeting at the Capitol with the chairmen of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, Senator Bob Graham (D) and Representative Porter Goss (R) (Goss is a 10-year veteran of the CIA's clandestine operations wing). The meeting is said to last at least until the second plane hits the WTC. Graham and Goss later co-head the joint House-Senate investigation into the 9/11 attacks, which has made headlines for saying there was no “smoking gun” of Bush knowledge before 9/11. Note Senator Graham should have been aware of a report made to his staff the previous month that one of Mahmood's subordinates had told a US undercover agent that the WTC would be destroyed (see Early August 2001). Evidence suggests Mahmood ordered that $100,000 be sent to hijacker Mohamed Atta (see Early August 2001 (D)). Also present at the meeting were Senator John Kyl (R) and the Pakistani ambassador to the US, Maleeha Lodhi (all or virtually all of the people in this meeting also met in Pakistan a few weeks earlier (see August 28-30, 2001)). Senator Graham says of the meeting: “We were talking about terrorism, specifically terrorism generated from Afghanistan.” The New York Times mentions bin Laden specifically was being discussed.

I don't think Graham is on the level. I think we're getting played here.

I was on a different page, one that had a bunch of pictures of various Saudis, as well as the highjackers, or those who may have been mistaken for them

9. I also want Goss confirmed quickly
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 02:31 PM by troublemaker
I despise Goss for insinuated Richard Clarke perjured himself, but I do want Goss confirmed quickly.

If Kerry wins he will be replaced at CIA, AND will be out of Congress.

And if Bush wins Porter Goss at CIA is pretty far down my list of worries.
