Iraqi parliament approves U.S. security pact -- 3 more years
BAGHDAD - Iraq's parliament has approved a security pact with the United States that lets American troops stay in the country for three more years. The vote was backed by the ruling coalition's Shiite and Kurdish blocs as well as the largest Sunni Arab bloc, which demanded concessions for supporting the deal. Parliament speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani said an "overwhelming majority" of the lawmakers -- 220 out of 275 -- voted in favor.

2. BBC reports: "The decision means US troops"
"will leave Iraqi streets by the middle of next year and will leave Iraq entirely by the end of 2011."

3. I suspect we hear more about this after Jan 20th.
Obama's biggest issue was getting out of Iraq.

6. I guess to be there in case something flares up.
I think they should just get out ASAP and force the Iraqis to defend and build their own country -- for better or worse.

4. Isn't this a treaty and doesn't the Senate have to approve it?
Maybe they gave up that power in the middle of the night to Bush while we weren't looking?

if we want to. As I understand it, we are not required to stay 3 more years -- just allowed to stay 3 more years then get out.
