In his announcement today, Obama stated that both he and General Shinseki "grew up in Hawaii". According to Wikipedia, the general was also born there: "Shinseki was born in Lihue, Kauai in the then Territory of Hawaii."

Why didn't Obama simply state instead, that both he and the General were born in Hawaii and grew up there?

They have an "idee fixe" a fixed idea. There is no way their delusions can be broken without proper medication.

People like this probably have a very dark mind. I bet they have a dark past, too, and a treasure trove of skeletons in their own closets.

Probably Obama wasn't sure where Shinseki was born. Or felt it more important to stress where they grew up.

This trope will play and play during Obama's Presidency. The right wing will try every trick in the book (no doubt including trying to pay off some government worker in Kenya or Indonesia to cook up a false certificate or two) to undermine Obama's right to serve. But the 'ougs wont stop at this, they'll spend most of the next eight years slinging as much shit Obama's way as they can, to try to drag him down to their level and make him lose focus, so they can then shout, "See?!? We told you he wasn't cut out for this!"

Fortunately, I have faith in Obama's ability to deal with the shitstorm and, at least in some measure, turn in back on its source.

Most people want to know, "Where do you come from?" And we answer, "I grew up in..."
