The interesting thing about Free Republic's response to the Blagojevic scandal.
What strikes me as noteworthy about their response to the indictment of Blagojevic is not that they are blaming Obama - of *course* they're blaming Obama - but that while there are dozens upon dozens of posts asserting certainty that Obama is tied to this scandal, there are none containing any specifics.

They're not coming up with conspiracy theories; I haven't seen any attempts to point to specific details as evidence that Obama is involved or ways he might be.

They don't have anything whatsoever to go on, except their own certainty and the fact that everyone they talk to on FR is certain too.

1. it's very simple
They only believe what certain people/sources tell them and those things are accepted on faith. They don't want any discussion or truth-seeking to disturb their world view.

It's a form of entertainment. Each "scandal" is like a new act in the carnival side show. Think back to the Clinton years. Every week there was a new allegation from Drudge or Rush or the Washington Times or Scaife or the WSJ. The Clintons put condoms on the WH Christmas tree! Bill Clinton molested Chelsea! Hillary is a lesbo! Ron Brown was murdered! Hillary threw a lamp at Bill! Come see the three-legged boy! Hurry, hurry, the world's tallest man!

And so they are titillated, the appetite for new scandal is fed.

To witness this is to develop a very cynical realization about half of America's citizenry. Blind. Naive. Willing to forego their very liberty for "excitement" that makes them feel part of the in crowd. It's just so damned easy to dupe them.

This isn't new. Just read Eric Hoffer's book "The True Believer."

3. Once again, it's all about "associations" . That's why they have
a new "chicago way" meme. Obama didn't do anything, but Chicago is corrupt, and Obama is from Chicago, therefore...

4. Baaaah baaaaah. they have to wait for Rush, Hannity & O'Liely to tell them what to think
Besides, the birth certificate thing is easier for them to comprehend. This other issue involves thinking and, like their current president, that's hard work.

5. They're both from Chicago. What more do you need?
I'm sure all 3 million people in the city are guilty too.

9. Freeps aren't real big on specifics as a rule.
...or facts, logic, and common sense for that matter.

11. Often they are, actually, which is why this surprised me.
If you look at, for example, the birth certificate, you'll find dozens of posts elaborating on how this or that detail of the version on the internet proves that it must be a fraud, and how this or that account proves Obama was born in Kenya or is a British citizen or similar.

In this case, I haven't seen any such specific allegations.

13. They don't HAVE to have facts when the media reports talking points as news

All you have to do is state a opinion. Not facts.

And, let the discussion begin.
