The contrast between the two Bush inaugurals and Obama is going to be dramatic
Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 07:40 PM by Hokie
Bush's two inaugurals more closely resembled funeral processions. Obama's first inaugural is going to be like the opening of the Olympic games. Damn good!

1. The second inaugural looked like our Capitol was being occupied
by a foreign military. It was disheartening. Protesters in cages. Cops armed to the teeth. Not very celebratory.

2. He should have just skipped any attempt at a ceremony...that
was horrible to even look at.

3. The first one, IMO, was almost comical
watching Bush walk with Clinton, Clinton with an easy grace and a small smile, Bush, who struggled to keep up and who looked "oh, so serious".

I almost laughed, but not quite. But, the contrast was very striking.

4. And of course Bush was yapping about "freedom" and "democracy"
while all of that was going on.

6. PLEASE let Barack walk down the street .... that's ALL I'm asking....
... it will absolutely BREAK my heart if, due to security reasons, the Obamas aren't allowed to walk down PA Ave on their way to the White House.

I'm not asking for them to walk the whole way like the Carters did (although we all know they are physically capable of doing it) but just PART of the way like the Clintons and Bushes did....

PLEASE, let security not be SO tight that he cant even be a man and walk down the street!!! If you're the prayin' type, join me in this selfish request ..... if you're not, cross your fingers or something! lol

I don't remember who carried the article though. Also the entire mall will be open!

7. I was in DC a couple of months before the 2004 inaugural.
For the first time ever there, I felt like I was seeing my capital city under a foreign occupier.

And, in fact, I was. The Bushistas are foreign to all that's good about the country.

12. I never watched anything to do with W for 8 years. I never felt like
I had any involvement with his regime or his version of the USA. Even though I was born here I felt like it was not my country any more, and I did my best to survive and ignore the rest.

I plan on watching Obama's inaugural.

13. I felt like I was a member of a small tribe that occupies
a thin strip along the East and West Coasts and a few cool college towns -- Boulder, Madison, for example -- in between. The rest of the country seemed scary and alien to me.
