Let's get poet laureate Kay Ryan to give the Inaugural Poem!
Here is a brief reading of her brief poems. How wonderful!

Now, if she could just do a poem a little longer for Obama's Inaugural!

1. Here's one for the skunk who is leaving
Well the farmer gets paid at least twice what he makes
And there’s no room for cold retribution
There’s no kangaroo courts
Or tax on imports
In Rosemary’s New Constitution

Every policy’s made with the President’s aide
Who is homeless and has no provisions
And when Congress gets stuck
On how to spend all our bucks
Well, a six year old makes the decisions

Because Rosemary knows when a change is coming too soon
‘cause she prays to the light of the Mount Hope Church moon
(she’ll light up the room!)
You can judge her all day
You can send her away
You can offer a better solution
But watch the House rock
When she puts her John Hancock
On Rosemary’s New Constitution

Elections aren’t fixed and the truth’s not deep-sixed
And the lever goes down when you pull it
We get to keep our handguns
Our Smith and Wessons
We just have to hand in all our bullets

And the Blacks own the food
And the Whites own the fuel
And the Natives own the land so they’re covered
The Rich own the schools
And the Poor own the banks
So they are all forced to live with each other

Rosemary knows when a change is coming too late
‘cause she prays by the light of the Mount Hope Church lake
(whatever it takes!)
You can judge her all day
You can send her away
You can form your own piss-poor conclusions
But watch the House rock
When she puts her John Hancock
On Rosemary’s New Constitution

2. Ya know, it's nice to see/hear a rhyming poet again.
But I don't know if her stuff is too edgy for an inaugural. What do you think?

I think that Obama is big enough for her to be big. I don't think she'd be disrespective; I think she'd be thoughtful, tho.

You think he'd ask her?

3. Her stuff is beautiful.
I think Obama should inject some beautiful poetry into the Inaugural, a la JFK and Frost.

4. Her dishes and spoons reference reminds me of Emily Dickinson.
But she evokes Dickinson beautifully. Most who try that do not. Kay comes about it easily; a natural born poet.

This woman would be absolutely wonderful at the Inaugural...I just wonder if she would do it...and how long it would be...
