Bidens beat the Obamas to it - will be bringing a new German Sephard pup to Washington
Biden — not Obama — gets new pooch
Carol E. Lee Carol E. Lee Thu

Malia and Sasha Obama apparently aren’t the only ones who were promised a puppy if they stuck it out through the presidential election.

Vice President-elect Joe Biden picked out a German shepherd pup last weekend from a breeder near his Delaware home, according to a local newspaper report.

Biden was reportedly promised the post-election dog by his wife, Jill, who would tape pictures of different dogs on the back of the seat in front of Biden on his campaign plane.

The vice president-elect picked out a month-old male German shepherd from a breeder in Chester County, Pa., according to the Daily Local News. The breeder told the paper Biden wanted a family dog that was social and obedient and said Biden's granddaughters will name him.

The puppy will be delivered to the Bidens at the vice presidential residence after the Inauguration and after the breeder trains him, the paper reports.

1. LOL! I love the Bidens a little bit more now.
What comes with a pre-trained puppy, I wonder? Makes his own bed? Answers the phone? Smiles at cameras?

:)

5. My mom just got a German Shepherd puppy a couple months ago from a Schutzhund breeder
She was 8 weeks old, and already knew sit, paw and lie down.

7. Wow. My lab puppy was just the basic model.
She knew how to chew everything and pee on the rug while smiling at me. :)

8. This puppy is good at that, too
She also sticks like glue to my mom.

It's so funny watching her play with my Border Collie and border Collie pup. She'll be bigger than them soon.

9. My girl is two now but she still hides her food from my cats
and she still tries to submit to little tiny dogs. She has no idea how big she is. lol

Her favorite spot is under my desk. Someone chewed me out for having a large dog in such a small space but I know from experience that even if I lived on acreage, this girl would be with me, where ever I was. That's just how this model comes. :)

14. That's funny, my dog is St. Bernard, Akita and
German Shepard and everyone calls him my siamese twin, because he doesn't leave my side except when I put him outside...even then if I'm not out there he wants back in right away....

2. I wish they had gotten a dog from a rescue instead of a breeder.
But I'm happy for both the dog and the Bidens.

24. Me, five. There has to be more than one German Shepherd rescue??
Nonetheless, I am happy for them.

Don't you just love Biden....he was waiting for his own pup...he's probably waited a LONG time as he didn't want to do it before with his very long commuting hours.

12. PLEASE let them name him Bark O'bama.....
Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 10:29 PM by Clio the Leo
... while that's WAY too cheesy for the President's own dog .... the Bidens could pull it off.

(And he gets an apostrophe because he'll need a good Irish name.)

I've been calling my own pet "Bark"

.... but that doesn't really work either as he's a cat.

Bo, Studs, Max, Gypsy, and Nasha.
And I miss every one of them.
Smartest dogs I've ever seen.

23. There are so many GSD puppies stuck in shelters and breed rescues and the Bidens do this?
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 02:04 PM by ClarkUSA
Jill Biden is not as sharp as I gave her credit for. Shame on her for missing a great opportunity to highlight the need to adopt
from a GSD breed rescue group. Too bad she didn't get a clue from the President-Elect about adopting a shelter dog.
