10. Drips are on my keyboard for some reason

Is that photo with Barack on the phone and his arm around the lady with the Obama hat --- his Mother In Law when he got the news that his grandmother had passed?

And, did they have the Memorial for her yet?

3. Tears are a real sign of deep emotion.
Some people express tears of joy while others can only express tears of sorrow. I was taught, when I was a child, not to cry but have shed tears as an adult.

13. Lovely pics.

The one that really gets to me is pic 26, I think. The white guy in the business suit. I would have figured him for a Republican. All of those pics are beautiful because they symbolize the human spirit yearning for hope, and so much more.

I love watching the election night countdown videos. My sister and I jumped up and down for 10 minutes, screaming. Two white women in their 40's. My daughter was downtown at the Seattle street party dancing away. What a fucking night. Incredible! I'll never forget it as long as I live. My sister and I were watching MSNBC, but my favorite countdown videos are the ones where people are watching CNN. There's the loud cheer at winning Virginia because that is where we knew, but had to wait until it was official. Then, a minute and some odd seconds later, the countdown for the Western poll close begins. People in the videos start counting down. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2..and then the CNN screen flashes the 'Breaking News' message. People cheer loudly, but a split second later, the screen flashes to show that Barack Obama is our President elect. That is when the cheers go off the charts and mayhem ensues. I've watched probably 3 dozen different videos, and it never gets old.

And the days that follow are even more incredible. I love our new President and his family. I used to wonder why my generation couldn't have an RFK or MLK. I no longer wonder. Fucking Generation Jones. We probably produced the greatest President ever.

15. +1 on pic #26 and the election countdown videos
I remember that pic of the Mississippi delegate from the Convention, and I thought it was another reminder not to judge the proverbial book by its cover. That was a sweet pic.

I too still get a kick out of those election countdowns. I'm glad so many people were watching CNN so you could anticipate the countdown/breaking news effect, and everyone realizing that all they're waiting on is California. :-) It's fun to see the cameras go REALLY jittery when the CNN Projection for Obama goes up.

One of my faves is this one from Georgetown:

The crazy excitement makes me smile every time.

16. Amazing photos, thank you.

All generations have their 'where were you when' moments. I'm way too young for the JFK assassination (parents hadn't met yet!), but my generation's big stories like that were the Challenger disaster and 9/11...until now.

I was in Grant Park in Chicago. As soon as VA was called, I called my mom on my cell. I live in Chicago but I'm from VA and she still lives there and she'd canvassed her ass off for Barack in a very red SW county. I wanted to share the moment with her--VA going blue. That was HUGE. But while I was on the phone with her, the final countdown started, because VA was IT and it was only a matter of waiting the few minutes til the west coast polls closed, and then the CNN jumbotron said BARACK OBAMA ELECTED PRESIDENT and I was screaming with her on the phone over the crowd, telling her, shouting together again and again and again until we lost all hopes of hearing each other.

The friend I was with, we're both cynical media types....we didn't think we'd cry. But we did. We held each other and fucking sobbed.

Later on, I realized my cell phone battery was pretty much dead. But I wanted my mom to be able to hear as much of his speech live as she could--lord knows she risked a lot for it and worked hard, and she doesn't have cable or even good TV reception way up in the mountains--and I swear, Barack did a little loaves & fishes miracle, because that battery held for his whole. damn. speech.
