All this talk of overtures and olive branches for the right-wing...
... seems a bit short-sighted, no? A bit premature?

Shouldn't President-Elect Obama be solidifying his progressive support at this point, rather than squandering it?

I mean, it doesn't make sense to be alienating the very people who've just demonstrated a willingness to fight on his behalf. There's lots of fighting still to be done, and I'd think a motivated base would come in handy in the weeks and months ahead.

He's got four years to mollify the right-wingers, if such a thing is even possible. And they'll be a lot easier to persuade, I'd imagine, if he's got a series of of successes and accomplishments he can point to. His base can help with that, in a way the right-wing can't or won't, not yet.

So why not keep the campaign momentum going, keep the love alive a while longer? Save the overtures and olive branches for later, when it will actually feel like "post-partisanship" rather than a stick in the eye to the very folks who've helped you get this far.

5. That only works if your enemies aren't carrying knives...

... to cut your throat with when they get within reach.

7. Not just Dem leaders. A lot of DUers...

... are sounding like battered spouses, hoping that if they can just be good, they won't get hit again. :(

3. No argument from me, but the outrage shouldnt be about a preacher
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 12:45 AM by DJ13
The outrage should come from Obama hiring the same financial thugs that abused their positions in the Clinton administration to fix those the problems their prior decisions created.

6. The outrage is there for the financial thugs, it really is.
I think that's what makes this preacher thing feel like part of a pattern, rather than a random WTF sort of thing.
