Pelosi concerned about Obama triangulating her
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16622_Page2.html

(...)

In talks with Emanuel and others, sources say, Pelosi has “set parameters” for what she wants from Barack Obama and his White House staff — no surprises, and no backdoor efforts to go around her and other Democratic leaders by cutting deals with moderate New Democrats or conservative Blue Dogs.

Specifically, Pelosi has told Emanuel that she wants to know when representatives of the incoming administration have any contact with her rank-and-file Democrats — and why, sources say.

(...)

Pelosi “is not going to allow Obama to triangulate her,” said a Democratic source close to the leadership. “It’s not going to happen to her.”

Pelosi’s mantra, in a way, is “no surprises.” The speaker wants to be told when Reid is communicating with the Blue Dogs or other factions with her caucus, and she expects the same from Obama when he arrives in the Oval Office, said Democratic sources.

1. One, I take everything I read in politico with not just a grain but a shaker of salt
Because most of it comes from "anonymous sources". But if this is true, all I can say is that Pelosi had be able to deliver the votes. Otherwise Obama is going to have to get them on his own.

2. what if it's something progressive dems oppose
and which Obama and centrist dems support?

Should Pelosi deliver the votes or stick with the progressives?

5. I'm drawing a blank on issues where that could potentially happen
The last time it happened was NAFTA but that only happened because it was untested and Clinton was able to sell it. Obama isn't going to go behind Pelosi's back to get trade deals passed. He's going to get the support of the key congressional players before passing trade agreements.

More likely than not what will happen is that Obama will want to pass something that is in the national interest and Pelosi will oppose it because she represents a group of people who are concerned about their own districts and not the national interest. Granted in such a scenario I also can't see him really getting a coalition of solely Republicans and blue dogs that will give him 218.

I think a good barometer for any such scenario is whether or not such legislation has support from progressives on the senate side. If Kennedy, Feingold, Sanders, Durbin etc. are supporting it but Pelosi is holding it up then she likely isn't doing so for progressive or ideological reasons.

12. She can eat shit AFAIC, however if she were to be triangulated that would be really fucking sad.
because she's been willing to be the tool of the Right enough that I suspect any action about which she would need to be triangulated around would involve mandatory baby-eating at the beginning of the day or something similarly heinous.

13. I wish SOMEBODY would.
I certainly wanted to "tri-angulate" (add "str" at the beginning and take the "tri" part off) her when she said that "Impeachment is off the table" bullshit. I've despised her ever since. She couldn't pay me to say I like her. x(

...because her husband's profiting from Bush's crimes, we should know. ...Treason.

19. Just step down, Nancy.
You've failed.

Failed to protect the rights of American citizens.

Failed to hold the Bush Administration accountable for their actions.

Failed to stop the war.

Failed to stand up to the minority party.

Failed to stop the further erosion of our economy, the growing deficit, or the obscene cash flow to Iraqi contractors.

You are a FAILURE, Nancy Pelosi. You've done NOTHING that you promised. Your approval ratings are sagging faster than your body parts. RESIGN, Nancy. It's the best thing you could possibly do for America at this point.
