In regards to the invocation/ benediction ... It seems like a symbol
from the past and an acceptance by the rightest of right for Obama, and ends with the beginning of a new day of acceptance, love, and hope. This is how it looks to me. Everything Obama does is a symbol. He's being accepted by the old school.. and starts a new day with the pastor who understands love. But its obviously not the symbol most see with this event. Its a failure. People can only see the bigot standing next to Obama, and it makes them want to puke. So, I think he should change the program. Its not working for most people in this regard.

1. No, it's starting with giving a raging evil bigot a platform
You know, the same bigot that did alot to help get Prop 8 passed. I actually DO consider the choice symbolic, for teh very reason I just stated. What a nice big "Fuck You!" to gays and women especially.

2. If the choice of Warren is symbolic,
then isn't the choice of Lowery symbolic as well?

5. I didn't say that.
I'm trying to understand why one is symbolic if the other isn't.

10. I'm quite certain I didn't.
I asked an honest question. If Warren is symbolic, why isn't Lowery?

8. They are both symbolic.. Remember when Obama clenched the nomination,
and went to St. Paul.. where the Pigs were going to have their convention.. Remember the entire DNC convention. This inauguration is completely symbolic.. I think he was going from old to new... but its not working. That big blowhard preacher is just not working with Prop 8 and its defeat. Besides he reminds me of this pastor I once had. big blowhard just like this guy. I left the church when he became full time pastor. The orig. pastor died, and after that the church bled parishoners. He was so full of it and so hypocritical.. blah. Oh, and seems to me the guy forgot not to be gluttonous..

6. Like I said, most are not seeing it as a shedding of the old and an embrace
by the right.. but as a pronouncement for a bigot. So, he should change the program. Especially, knowing what Prop 8 did. It was a bitter sweet day to have Obama and your rights removed. Seems strange really. Surreal. Anyway, because of that, Using Warrens is not right. He was involved in Prop 8 and that's all people can see. Had it just been a smoothing over from the ass trying to make Obama look bad at the Saddlewhatever forum, then I could be more understanding. His symbol of old to new is NOT working. Its an Epic fail. and he said he would fail at times, and this is one time he's FAILED. He needs to change the program. Oh, and why not find a woman pastor, a gay pastor, a person from another religion..

9. I think you are correct
I would also add that I feel that Obama is personally an honorable man, but I fear that he has this notion that others, like Warren, are as honorable as he is. That remains to be seen. I hope Obama doesn't wind up being hurt by this by giving Warren more power to spread his notions of inequality and homophobia.

All this being said, it is also wise to remember that change will not come with polarization. A certain amount of "reaching across the aisle" will have to be done to gain equality for everyone. Time will tell whether or not this outreach was helpful or harmful.
