Seriously, I could see circumstances where choosing Rick Warren would have been the best choice for the invocation possible.

Unfortunately, those circumstances do not currently exist.

So what would those circumstances have been?

Had Proposition 8 failed miserably, Rick Warren would have been the best choice possible.

Under the existing circumstances, there could have been very few choices that would have been worse. Dobson or Robertson come to mind, but not many more with that level of proiminence could have been worse.
