What the hell, Obama.
I'm not gay, and some may even say I am utterly clueless when it comes to cultural political correctness, but what the hell is up with this Rick Warren nut? I just watched some stuff on him and read some more about him, and this due is pretty much just a typical wingnut religiofacist. Why put Rev. Lowery on the back end, a CIVIL RIGHTS HERO, and let this wingnut do the invocation? Lowry marched with KING and Warren did what, wrote the Purpose Driven Life? This is a historical inauguration, ok, and I wanted to enjoy it with all of the fervor and ferocity possible, but now I feel a little something has been taken away. There is something diminished, even if just marginally diminished, about it all now. I can't feel good about it knowing that thousands of GLBT folks donated money, worked hard for Obama, and then voted for him, when people like wingnut Warren did the same thing for McCain, working against Obama and us day and night. These were the wingnut spreading rumors about Michelle, Obama, his mother, grandparents, his Kenyan family (Oh, and I didn't forget about the wingnuts exposing his aunt who is here seeking asylum or the fact that Hannity and the rest of the wingnuts harassed Obama's brother in Kenya). These people will only feel validated with Warren giving the invocation. These people don't do post-partisan. They will not take this as a friendly, post partisan gesture. They will consider it validation. They are wingnuts. It's their religion. It's their ideology. You can't tell these people they are wrong. Rev. Lowry is someone everyone could have agreed upon for the invocation. You don't showcase a person like Warren at the inauguration of the first black president. Hell no! This is the most historical inauguration in our nation's history, IMO. You don't intentionally stain it with a jerk like Warren.

Sigh.

1. So, let me get this straight...
Not only did you think your opinion on this issue was so unusual that it demanded yet another new thread, but you couldn't be bothered to break it into readable paragraphs. You're not the only one sighing...

13. Well, you read it didn't you?
If my post was so annoying, why even read it? I haven't been on here for the past 48 hours posting nonstop about this issue, so I don't know the number of postings made on this topic, although I can imagine there's been plenty. I don't understand why my opinion, even if similar to others, would be any less welcomed, BRYAN.

2. It's frikkin' amazing. I'm not gay but I worked tirelessly for Obama for 10 days
and he's picking a homophobic freak that is nothing less than Bushist, as his main officiating guy in the inauguration.

It matters not, they still won't ever like Obama.

12. Its that difficult for you to read the person's thoughts
because its not structured how you like it?

You sound as anal as a wingnut soccer mom drving her kids around in a hummmer while talking on a cell phone and totally ignoring everyone else on the road

I am offended by this, and I'm a straight man...I can't imagine how GLBTs feel about this.

Its a stab in the back if you ask me.

GLBT I stand with you.

25. As do I
For what it is worth, I am an Obama supporter. Still thinking he might pull this off.

But man...this is one hell of a bone-headed thing to do. Very hurtful to the GLBT community...to women, and to science (my ox that was gored).

I stand with the GLBT community, as well. This is legitimate outrage. The first time (McClurkin) was somewhat forgivable because there was a backlash that Obama should have/could have learned from. But there is no excuse this time, and this is one group that I am sick and tired of seeing thrown under the bus.

The last three elections in the US featured gays being hung out to dry for political expediency...and bless them, they took it and still came through for the Democrats even though they had little reason to do so. But that is enough sacrifice in the name of politics. We either stand up for human rights or "progressive" doesn't mean shit.

14. Yeah, forgive me. I haven't had the time to sit on DU for 24 hours posting on this subject.
I dropped in briefly yesterday and gave my initial reactions, but then had to jet out. But whatever. Carry on.

24. What a shame. Civil rights issues for all Americans trumping a personality contest!
Sp Obama's "person of the Year" award is waaay more important than homage being paid to a bigot who despises women and LGBTS ? Yeah we need to just STFU and reralize we are "marginal" finge issues and it is waay more important to reach out to the "other side". because they will vote in 2012.

And it isn't likely that bipartisanship is gonna get us anything. Never has before. Just look at Reid and Pelosi.

27. Seriously!
The post isn't even *that* long! Also, I find it odd that people whose time is apparently so precious that they can't read through a post not broken down into readily-digestible chunks still manage to have the time to formulate response posts bitching about the OP's paragraph structure.
