The death of the Republican Party, IF you want it.
So here we are, we won, Barack Obama received more votes than anybody in history, he even received more evangelical votes than Kerry, despite the Muslim tag that was placed on him by the right wing.

Now the dragon is wounded and laying on the ground, all the dragon slayer has to do is walk over and deliver the killing blow by plunging his sword into the heart of the dying beast. The heart is the evangelical base. Lets be honest now, a large group of these people can be converted, but the conversion won't happen with the same old song and dance of rejection and isolation that we have seen Bush play for the last 8 years, it will happen by reaching out, by sitting down with our enemies, if Obama were to reject Rick Warren and his millions of followers how would that be change ? ...Bush has rejected gays, blacks, atheists, and democrats for starters, and his party is in ruins..on the brink of total collapse.

Personally, I would like to see Obama pull millions of evangelicals from the republican base, and if he has to use Rick Warren to accomplish this, then let it be.

I also believe that if this plan to convert evangelicals is coupled with major Health care reform, the republican party might just die off.

But we have to want it bad enough.

A wise man once said....

"It is that fundamental belief, it is that fundamental belief, I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper that makes this country work. It’s what allows us to pursue our individual dreams and yet still come together as one American family.

Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters, the negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes.

Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America — there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America — there’s the United States of America."

1. You simply don't understand these people
Check around on their little sites today. Do you see them praising Obama for picking one of their own for such a high-profile spot? No, you see them throwing Warren under the bus as a sellout.

Fuck the fundy vote. We proved last month that we don't need them, so why pander to them? Well...I know the answer but I'm not in the mood for severe flames tonight.

3. Spot on response! If someone is under the illusion that fundies are pliable
enough to move to our side they are hideously naive and very, very simple minded.

Hang around FR for a few days and soak up their thought processes (and I use the term loosely.)

Like conservative Catholics, political conservatives see themselves as warriors for their cause and that mindset is impossible to change.

2. Obama needs to understand that theres no appeasing the far right
They dont think like us, they see a Democrat "reaching across the aisle" as a sign that that Democrat is weak, that he can be manipulated to their advantage.

The absolute WORST THING Obama can do is to try and make nice with them.

5. As someone who has lived in the Bible belt South for much of my life..
this is a bad thing for Obama to do.

The conservative evangelist movement is on life support. Obama should pull the plug, not pump them up and keep them around.
