1. But Caroline is a half cousin, thrice-removed of Rick Warren
:scared:

5. Well, they are soul mates.
And Warren did suggest that gays getting married is that same as incest...

perhaps we now know the secret father of little Trap or Trip or whatever.

2. Palin was elected, it wasn't handed to her.
As crazy as that may seem.

6. Don't compare the intelligent, knowledgeable, educated Caroline Kennedy w/Palin.
Palin is a joke. Kennedy is not.

8. Hell's freakin' bells. If Bush can be (nominally) the President
then I can be Brian Eno, James Bond and Mamie Van Doren. If Sarah Palin can be a Governor, the country is much farther gone than a lot of us already feared.

(ps. - I'm an admirer of Caroline & I hope it happens...)

11. "Records show Caroline Kennedy failed to cast her vote many times
Records show Caroline Kennedy failed to cast her vote many times since 1988

Caroline Kennedy wants to be the next senator from New York, but her voting record is already spotty, the Daily News has found.

City Board of Elections records show Kennedy has failed to vote in many elections since she registered in the city in 1988 - including votes for the Senate seat she hopes to fill and numerous Democratic faceoffs for mayor.

"It doesn't speak to a deep-felt commitment to the electoral process," Baruch College political scientist Doug Muzzio said when told of Kennedy's ballot breakdowns.

Records show Kennedy did not pull the lever for any of her fellow Democrats in city primary races for mayor in 1989, 1993 and 1997 and 2005, which Republicans went on to win three out of four times in the general election.

She was also AWOL for the primary and general elections in 1994, when Sen. Daniel Moynihan was running for reelection to the seat Kennedy hopes to hold.

13. I've said before that I don't care whether she gets the seat or not. Personally she leaves me cold.

And the more I've seen of her in the last couple of days, the more I've been underwhelmed by her. Up until recently she had been a private person so I didn't really get a chance to form an impression of her until lately. So far...meh. But she won't be my Senator so whatever.

But no way Caribou Barbie should be a governor, so I don't find your argument all that convincing.

21. sure, if she runs for the job and gets elected
IMHO Kennedy's a political lightweight and dilettante with little experience and a sense of entitlement, but if she wants to get her hands dirty, enter the primary in 2010, win, go on to campaign and win the general election, fine. If her constituency elects her who am I to complain?

Is Kennedy better-educated and better-connected than most people in Congress? Probably. Would she be a better senator than, say, Inhofe? Probably. Is she the best pick to represent her state? I think a state that size can do better. I think a prospective representative of the people should do better than "grudgingly" answering questions in Rochester (according to yesterday's Times) or appearing to flee reporters in Buffalo (see video here): to me, this reinforces the impression that she seems above the common citizen. But I wouldn't be surprised to see her get the nod: big names bring in a lot of money.

Palin's faults and shortcomings are beyond number, the greatest of which is that she combines Bush's intellect with Cheney's ambition. But you have to concede she got where she is by her own efforts.
