My last word is SYMBOLISM IS FUCKING IMPORTANT
Rosa Parks not giving up her seat was a symbolic gesture.

Ghandi going to the ocean and making salt was a symbolic gesture.

Cornwallis not surrendering personally to Washington was a symbolic gesture.

The lone chinese protester in Tianemen Square in front of the tank was a symbolic gesture.

If your married your wedding was a symbolic gesture to demonstrate publicly your commitment

If your Christian communion is a symbolic gesture.

If you've been to one Obama event you know how much symbolism is displayed on there. The people who sit behind the candidate are not early birds...they are hand picked by the PR people.

The Innaguration is nothing but symbolism. The peaceful transfer of power is broadcast live with one President sitting on the stage leaving power and the new President taking power. Who speak that day matters and what their role is matter.

Now it can be argued that someone who disagrees with Obama praying for our nation that day is good symbolism. It could also be argued that a man who tries to potray himself as a moderate when he is nothing more than Falwell in a floral shirt who worked to deny a certain population equal rights, and compares them to sexual predators and deviants is bad symbolism.

However stop saying its just a fucking prayer because symbolism has always and will always matter.

6. Unity? As skin heads and Jews? KKK and Blacks? KKK and Catholics?
This is a symbol of Obama enabling bigotry and homophobia!

Well seeing Warren's analogies to why he didn't support Gay Marriage
All involved sexual behavior that is illegal. Pedophilia, Incest, and Bygamy therefore one can only conclude that Warren believes that homosexuality is unlawful and deviant behavior that should be punished. So if you support that...you aren't my friend.

11. Warren compares homosexuality to pedophilia and incest
Warren compares abortion to the Holocaust.

Warren preaches that women must always submit to male authority.

Warren says that Jews will burn in Hell.

If you are endorsing Warren, you are endorsing homophobia, anti-Semitism, and misogyny.

2. it's pretty hilarious having so many DU'ers SUDDENLY having an epiphany over symbolism

and how it matters. I'd bet a small sum that many of those DU'ers don't really have a clue as to the why and how it matters psychologically.

But yes, it is symbolism.

Warren is being used to reach out to Evangelicals, some of whom are younger and more likely to be amenable to causes of social justice.

9. Warren is being used as symbol by Obama to show that he is
willing to pander to anyone - no matter how bigoted and hateful they are - should he find it politicaly expedient to do so.

15. If Obama can pander to Rick Warren, how about pandering to Hamas?
Hamas hates Jews as much as Rick Warren.

A President-Elect has mostly Symbolism to get his message out.

12. Symbolism is only meaningful when it works for the good of Obama.
Symbolism that reflects poorly on Obama, on the other hand, is utterly insignificant.
