1. I know it would be a real sacrifice for them, but dropping out would be pretty cool

What would that prove?

3. where did you read they won't drop out?
Since these are the people who are supposed to 'represent my interests', I'd like them to do so and refuse participation in the parade. I've already written them as much.

Nice.
Then I guess they aren't 'representing' me and the Obama transition team needs to stop insisting that they are.

4. So you don't care about the pride many of these band
members probably feel at being invited to the inauguration to perform?

16. such an attitude is not surprising around here.
"me!! me!! me!! " and "I feel like SO, and anyone who doesn't is a (pick one) / asshole - idiot - homophobe - some other DUer's favorite insult/ !!"

18. I don't care eh?
Quite a jump, but I understand.

I was thrilled to learn they were invited before I heard about Rick Warren.

I wouldn't feel any pride at participating in an event that features a homophobe, but I cannot speak for others that do.

21. agreed
This is just my personal point of view, and not indicative of the gay community at all.

BUT...having us in this parade is pure tokenism, yet it's being pointed to by Obama as some kind of huge prize.

It's a stereotype that we go ga-ga over parades.

It doesn't constitute a 'makeup' for having Warren front and center.

It's not about having PRIDE about being in the parade, it's about having PRIDE when it comes to our dignity.

9. WTF?
How in the hell do you expect to advance gay rights by refusing to associate with people?

I swear sometimes the Gay community is bent on preventing themselves from achieving their own goals.

12. Obama will invite a Holocaust denier to speak at Inaugural
but that would be okay because there is a klezmer band marching in the parade. :eyes:

20. Ok, this is worse than telling Olympic athletes NOT to go to Beijing..
Come on-- if they wanted to drop out, they would have. What good does nagging them about it do? They probably worked really hard to be able to go to something thing BIG.

22. I didn't nag
I just hoped that they'd reconsider going considering they are basically being patted on the head and put out there to lend credence to Obama's politics
