Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 03:39 AM by orleans

Joint Congressional Committee
on Inaugural Ceremonies
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) plans and executes all Inaugural activities at the United States Capitol, including the Inaugural swearing-in ceremony of the President and Vice President of the United States and the traditional Inaugural luncheon that follows.

Upon passage of a concurrent resolution, the JCCIC is established and the members appointed. The Vice President appoints Senators and the Speaker of the House of Representatives appoints House members. The JCCIC is usually comprised of the Senate Majority Leader (at the time of appointment), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Majority and Minority Leaders of the House of Representatives.

4. this is misleading, it was Obama who wanted him there
that's why he was asked. they might formally be the ones to do things but the Pres Elect has most say about these matters, especially when it comes to people like Warren getting a speaking role.

9. They do bear some responsibility even if it was his idea and his choice.
They're supposed to represent us in these matters. (San Francisco thank you especially, Nancy!)

5. A rogue's gallery of the worst vichy dems
No matter how progressive Obama turns out to be (I'm guessing "not very"), we've still got a long way to go before the government is back in the hands of the people.

6. "The program participants were based on requests from the President-elect & the VP Elect"
"The program participants were based on requests from the President-elect and the Vice President-elect." http://inaugural.senate.gov/media/releases/release-12172008-inauguralwebsite.cfm

Calling anyone but Obama or Biden is a waste of time, these are the people they have chosen, no one else. The other people you have listed are not responsible in any way ,shape or form. Please read the link carefully, it's right there, as to who is responsible for choosing the participants.

7. Reportedly Warren was Obama's choice & decision, not the Committee's.
From Salon:

News of Warren's involvement in the inauguration came out of the congressional committee working on the inauguration instead of from Obama's own inaugural committee, a wholly separate entity. At least initially, aides for Obama's inaugural committee said the decision had come from Congress, not Obama. In fact, that wasn't the case at all. "That was solely the choice of the president-elect," said Gil Duran, a spokesman for Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the California Democrat who chairs the congressional committee. Obama's staff sent explicit orders for whom to include in the inaugural ceremony up to Capitol Hill, since Congress is, technically, in charge of that part of the day. "Sen. Feinstein obviously disagrees with the views of Rev. Warren on issues that affect the gay and lesbian community," Duran said. "However, Sen. Feinstein respects the president-elect's prerogative to select a cleric to deliver the invocation." (That one doesn't need any translation -- Feinstein's office was politely, respectfully, throwing Obama under the bus.) http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/12/19/rick_warren/

From Americablog:

Feinstein reportedly had nothing to do with Warren choice; it was Obama.
A powerful Democratic friend contacted me this morning to let me know that they talked to the key players yesterday, and Diane Feinstein, chair of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, had nothing to do with the pick of Rick Warren as Obama's invocation speaker at the inaugural. The decision was made by Obama himself, I'm told, and Feinstein just assumed that he had vetted it with his staff. Difi went along with Obama's decision, not the other way around. If this is true, then our apologies to Senator Feinstein for suggesting that she was involved. http://www.americablog.com/2008/12/feinstein-reportedly-had-nothing-to-do.html

11. He did "take care of it"
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 07:45 AM by alwysdrunk
He made a statement about the complainers, mentioned his relationship with Warren and that's that. It's time for some R&R, not trying to soothe complainers trying to force his hand.

12. Did they pick him?
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 01:59 PM by wryter2000
Didn't Obama pick him? If so, I don't think it's their place to tell the PE whom he can and cannot have.

Editted to add: I loathe Warren and am adamantly opposed to his participation, and I'm no lover of DiFi, but let's put the blame where it belongs.

14. Impeachment is off the table, and Warren is the Invocator in Chief
Obama had a say so, he could have vetoed Warren. He didn't! He hasn't said a word of regret, anymore than he regreted his silence on Farrakhan (until Hillary pried from him).
