Geraldine Ferraro: "Caroline Kennedy not ready and not qualified"
Geraldine Ferraro gave a thumbs down to Caroline Kennedy's bid for the Senate yesterday - even as the Camelot daughter won her biggest endorsement for the job, The Post has learned.

Ferraro, the first woman nominee for vice president, sent a letter to Gov. Paterson urging him to instead appoint one of New York's six sitting female Congress members to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Senate.

At the same time, Brooklyn Democratic Party head Vito Lopez, who leads the biggest county party in the city, issued the first formal endorsement for Kennedy.

Ferraro said it's not time for on-the-job training while New York faces a fiscal crisis.

Gerry Ferraro also took her opportunity in "Face the nation" to slam Caroline Kennedy. Any vendetta going on here?

8. Turncoat
Geraldine Ferraro is a hard headed, racist turncoat. Now, what would she have someone do if they are eligible for a higher office? Would she tell them not to do it if they'd have to learn on the job? She's a walking contradiction. She said "yes" when she was asked to be on the democratic ticket as a the VP nominee and has made it clear that she wasn't qualified. So, why is it necessary for her to tell other people not to run for office or accept nominations? It was a boon for her political career. She's really lost hear bearings and think more of her opinion than what it is worth.

26. You mean, Geraldine "I'm really impressed with Sarah Palin" Ferraro?
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 02:06 PM by FrenchieCat
She said she spoke to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to wish him a happy birthday -- Ferraro's birthday was earlier this week, she turned 73 -- and she told McCain to give Palin her congratulations.

"He said, 'Why don't you speak to her?'" Ferraro recounted. So she did. "She was very, very nice and I do congratulate her."
http://wcbstv.com/topstories/geraldine.ferraro.palin.2.806463.html

In speaking of Sarah Palin,
"What she doesn't know she will learn very quickly, she seems smart enough," Ferraro said.

38. I am tired of this "not qualified" BS...
From the US Constitution, Article One, Section 3, Clause 3:
"No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen."

She meets all of these. And, if she is named the replacement, the 17th Amendment covers that:

Second paragraph of the 17th Amendment:
"When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of each State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct."

You think our politicians, past and present, would take the short time necessary to read the Constitution.

56. No, Gerry is wrong. NY will be better served by a Senator who can call the President
at any time directly to discuss whatever she wants to. She likes to work without the spotlight on and as the junior Senator from NY and with little seniority she will be quite content in being one of 100 without the need of throwing herself into the spotlight like Schumer or other attention-seeking Senators. I think that quietly she would learn and get things done for NY and will be a formidable fund raising source for 2010, 2012 and 2016. Gerry Ferraro was completely unqualified to be VP and her selection was a long-shot Hail Mary by Fritz Mondale just like McCain's selection for the not-so-ready-for-prime-time Sarah Palin, who immediately got a warm political embrace and verbal bouquets by Ferraro.

70. But the rules are the rules
Since the rules are what they are, then a non elected official will do. If the person were elected for any other position, they'd still be appointed Senator. And Senator is clearly not the position that the people chose for them. So, in the end, the appointment is coming from someone the people thought worthy enough to do it. That person is an elected official. Geraldine isn't right. She's simply getting high off her own self image.
