A Call for Unity

but it could have been said about this one as well.

Stupid sentiment in either case.

4. I believe it was white Democrats during the 1960's.
Thank goodness AA's didn't stop, didn't listen because the time was right
and their fight was right and some of us marched with them and didn't tell
them to be quiet. The day that MLK gave that speech on the steps of the
Lincoln Memorial was one of the most powerful things I've witnessed in my
lifetime.

7. Yep. It was the "You Aren't Doing It Right" letter.
His response to it was the Letter from Birmingham Jail (also known as the "Thank You For Your Concern" letter.)

Everyone who considers themselves an ally in someone else's struggle for justice (which should be everyone here) should study that letter. Not just read it, but study it and go back to it from time to time.

And when my friends were, I didn't send letters letting them know they were doing it wrong.

10. Well then how can you presume to know what the 60s civil rights movement was like?
After all if you are going to suggest only the GBLT community can comment on the current fight for civil rights, you are creating a standard that precludes you from comparing it to other civil rights fights (as you are not a member of that community at that point in time). That's what happens when you become more concerned about who instead of what is said.

6. It was the statement that caused MLK to respond
"In the midst of blatant injustices inflicted upon the Negro, I have watched white churches stand on the sidelines and merely mouth pious irrelevancies and sanctimonious trivialities. In the midst of a mighty struggle to rid our nation of racial and economic injustice, I have heard so many ministers say, 'These are social issues with which the Gospel has no real concern.'"

13. What is your point?
What does it matter that none of us posting on this message board are in jail?
You don't really have a point, you just say a bunch of words and then sit back
like you actually made any sense.
