Another reason to oppose Burris' appointment: Burris tried to execute an innocent man.
http://www.propublica.org/article/in-90s-burris-sought-death-penalty-for-innocent-man-1231

Former Illinois attorney general Roland Burris, embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s pick to replace Barack Obama in the Senate, is no stranger to controversy.

Public fury over the governor’s alleged misconduct has masked the once lively debate over Burris' decision to continue to prosecute – despite the objections of one of his top prosecutors – the wrong man for a high-profile murder case.

While state attorney general in 1992, Burris aggressively sought the death penalty for Rolando Cruz, who twice was convicted of raping and murdering a 10-year-old girl in the Chicago suburb of Naperville. The crime took place in 1983.

But by 1992, another man had confessed to the crime, and Burris’ own deputy attorney general was pleading with Burris to drop the case, then on appeal before the Illinois Supreme Court.

Burris refused. He was running for governor.

Between that and Blago, I don't want this douchetard anywhere near political power. GET HIM OUT!!!

1. Can't believe I'm the first DUer to give your awesome post a righteous kick, but
here it is!

Thanks for finding this and posting it. The more I hear about this guy, the less I like him. Although, all it took was his acceptance of this stinky, tainted apppointment and I could already tell that everything is all about Burris for Burris. Hence why he'd even consider the Blago offer.

The two of these men could probably light up the whole city of Chicago if someone could harness their hubris, arrogance and narcissism.

Gotta shine the light on people like Burris - bring in some sunshine and see if they burst into flames...

5. he is also an idiot, imho.
when he was running for governor, he took a stand that was just so stupid, it colors my entire estimation of the man.
he said he wanted "a" computer in every classroom. a computer. in classrooms with 30 kids. a computer.
it was a long time ago, but not that long ago. at the time most high schools in illinois at least had computer labs where there were enough computers for every kid. he just didn't want to have to figure out how to pay for a computer for every school kid in illinois at a time when the per pupil spending was probably about $3K/yr. and il was about 40th out of 50 states in education spending. i think we are lower than that now.
i still shake my head.

6. There was more to that case than detailed here.
If it really was that simple, Burris would not have continued. This is one site's opinion. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that this charge is crap.

Burris is a good man. Blago is an idiot and should step down. But that should not taint Burris' character - tho I guess any tid bit of odd misinformation can do that now here.

7. Accepting the Blago Nomination Should Disqualify Burris
His ego seems to be only eclipsed by his lack of ethics. Dems should not back Burris. His appointment is radioactive.

11. I know nothing of Burris...
...but that he could be tone-deaf enough to accept this nomination may be all the reason we need to oppose him.
