Possible candidates for the job include Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sibelius -- who was suggested for a number of senior Obama administration posts but has yet to be nominated for any -- and Scott Harris, managing partner of the Washington DC law firm Harris, Wiltshire and Grannis who is an expert in trade issues.

Also mentioned is Leo Hindery, a former chief executive officer of The Yes Network, the nation's largest regional sports network and a senior economic policy adviser to former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

Another Obama backer whose name had surfaced was Oracle President Charles Phillips.

I think so, but she can always change her mind.

Sebelius bows out of Obama’s Cabinet selection process

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius shocked the Kansas political establishment Saturday by abruptly withdrawing from consideration as a member of President-elect Barack Obama’s Cabinet.

Sebelius had been one of four finalists to be vice president and was listed as a potential secretary for several Cabinet positions, including labor, energy and education. Democrats close to her had said she was interested in going to Washington.

Only last month at a news conference she said: “I’m always flattered to have my name in circulation. I want to be helpful any way I can.”

But that all changed with a brief, four-sentence statement that cited the state’s worsening budget crunch. The state deficit is now expected to reach $141 million when the current fiscal year ends in June and threatens to explode to $1 billion or more if substantial cuts aren’t made by 2010.

Sebelius sparks Senate speculation

Kathleen Sebelius’ abrupt decision recently to remove herself from consideration for a Cabinet position has heightened speculation that she is seriously considering a Senate bid in 2010, raising Democratic hopes of picking up a seat in a state that hasn’t elected a Democrat to the Senate in 78 years.

She is our Kansas Governor and awhile back asked Obama to remove her from any appointment because she felt an obligation to return to Kansas and finish the job her constituents had elected her for. She was on a very short list and he did reluctantly let her go. Also, she is term limited and will probably run for Senator Brownback's seat in 2010 when he leaves. He will probably run for Governor in 2010.

Like Harris, Hindery, and Phillips have all been. And Sebellius apparently has taken her name out of consideration already. There's gotta be someone out there who is better.

I was REALLY missing her and Claire! (Of course can stay right where she is on the Senate floor, we NEED her.)
