One thing I really, really like about Obama is...
he appears to be the type of person who will accept ideas from any person on any topic regardless of who he or she is. He seems to be the type that surrounds himself with people and encourages honest and up front answers without the fear of scorn or retribution.

Unlike the current person in the White House.

1. I agree!
That is one of his most important qualities!

And I am very glad to see it.

None of this "My way or the highway" nonsense.

4. Clinton fought the Republicans....
Edited on Sun Jan-11-09 03:08 AM by FrenchieCat
Which means that Clinton had to negotiate with Republicans in order to get things done. The results were more conservative than what having a Democratic President should have done for Democrats at the time.

Obama is "fighting" Democrats, which means whatever is done will be more Progressive....because the Republicans are kind of out of the equation.

It seems that Obama kinda of wanted it that way.

6. Starting out...
Clinton had a Democratic Congress too though. They quickly lost control in 1994. If the same thing happens to Obama in 2010, he'll have a tough time just like Clinton.

8. Yeah but they had a stimulus with a tax increase
that passed with no Repuke support which allowed them to go all over the country with it as their favorite talking point. Obama isn't going to make that mistake.

24. Clinton had a Democratic Congress full of hangovers from the Jim Crow era
People like Sam Nunn and Howell Heflin aren't what makes up our Democratic caucus anymore.

16. I like that about him as well, however it has led to a lot of negativity towards him on DU which
is a shame. I personally think it's a good trait (he's better than I in that respect) being able to put aside personal difference and still offer them a job or listen to what they have to say, even if he doesn't agree with them. It means he's open minded. Sadly this open mindedness scares people into thinking that it can go both ways, that not only Will Obama be open minded to our opinions and thoughts but also open to hateful and bigoted agendas, which he wont. Because what they don't get is that he is a rational and compassionate man who can listen to people like Warren without switching over to his way of thinking. I hope people see the bigger picture with what Obama is trying to do soon.

21. I hope he listens too ...
but not to that nasty jowly Pastor Rick Warren.
When inauguration invocation is given, Obama should plug his ears.
This reaching accross the aisle is all well and good, but no one shoulsd actually LISTEN to that lard-basted bigot.
If Warren's presence at the inaugural is only for appearences, let Obama reassure us by wearing earplugs, or stopping his ears with his long shapely fingers.

23. His thoughtfullness and depth I believe bring alot of comfort to people
He seems genuinely interested in the entire world -- not just the narrow part that he inhabits. There may be a million reasons for this but I have no doubt growing up a bi-racial child in Indonesia and Hawaii who later identified himself as a black man in America is a large reason for his very inclusive behavior.

It's very easy to exclude everyone when all you've known your entire life is a very small faction of America, which is one of the reasons I think people like the Bushes will soon be a thing of the past. That type of homogenized environment (whether by birth or by choice) is a large reason I think Bush sees the entire world as "us vs. them" - it's all he's ever known.
