Is anyone else in tears already?
In my view, the Philadelphia speech alone could stand as one of the great Inaugural Addresses.

It begins! There were many days when I thought a day like this one would never come. But it has.

1. My tears started earlier this past week...
When I saw his official picture, the one that will be in federal buildings, I cried!!!

And I have been dancing and just shuffling and crying - oh what a weekend!

2. Yes...
He knocks it out of the park every time. MSNBC's reporter in Wilmington said that Barack will speak for around an hour there. Holy cow. Perhaps that's the total time they'll be there though. It takes a while to greet the people and depart, so it's possible he'll speak for around 40 minutes. He is scheduled to speak around 1:00 EDT.

4. It was good to hear some soaring words. I know the economy doesn't inspire
much rhetoric, but its nice to be reminded why we fell in love during the last 2 yrs with this mans mind, words, and vision. I didn't cry.. I'm at work, but I'm close to be very choked up. Can't wait for the inagural speech.. or just the next stop... wooo hooo all aboard.. wooo hoo.

it sends chills down my spine. He's so brilliant, passionate, and eloquent about comparing the challenges of 1776 with the challenges of today.

That time period has always peaked my interest... much more than the civil war era.

13. The American Revolution is...
of course one of the most important times in our country's history. So was the Civil War, but it was the darkest time in our country's history. The Civil Rights Movement's breakthroughs in the 1950's and 1960's are also up there with the Revolution as one of the most important times. Kind of hypocritical to have a Declaration of Independence that states all men were created equal but to not even allow people basic human rights. And sadly, we still have a ways to go in this regard but things have gotten significantly better for minorities of all stripes since the Civil Rights Movement had so many breakthroughs. Next stop will be making homophobia completely unacceptable as a society.

18. I agree, stepping thru history, trying to correct the past and make things better
for the future. Bush has been like one step backwards for 8yrs, which is why so many think he's been a horrible president.. he went backwards, didn't trust in the people or the future.

it was a total acknowledgement of the #&$*%(^ situation Bush has put America and the world in, and awareness that we have to FIX IT together.

Yes, tears already.

Aren't there aliens in it or something?

Lucas needs to step away from the word processor and go canoeing or something. At this point he's as useless as a condom machine in the Vatican.

You know the source material has been tarnished when I get more into the Robot Chicken version of Star Wars than the real thing. :)

35. Yes, there's aliens...
and HORRIBLE computer generated monkeys with Shia LeBouf swinging around through the trees with the monkeys like Tarzan or something. Talk about an AWKWARD ass scene. There's also a moment where Indy survives a nuclear blast by jumping in a fridge. There was an entire blog started as a result of it called "Nuke the Fridge" which is just a play on "jump the shark." Lucas is a hack and unfortunately he dragged Spielberg into it too. There's a TERRIBLE 1950's "nostalgia" bit at the beginning of the movie. It's Lucas' attempt to copy his classic American Graffiti, but it comes off really poorly.

after watching Barack's speech in Philadelphia and then the event with the Bidens in Delaware. It just all seems to be sinking in for me, that all the endless hours of phonebanking, canvassing, rally and debate watching, poll tracking , etc, etc ( not to mention these past eight, long years..)have all led up to this, this incredibly beautiful moment for America and her history. 59. for me it's seeing all the happy crowds
It's so wonderful, seeing all those joyful people together in one place, happy to see a change coming, happy to see Obama, happy to be together with all the others who feel the same way they do.

I cried again watching him in Baltimore, after the speech, when there was a closeup of him going through the crowd shaking hands and smiling... that radiant smile! That's a man who's comfortable with himself and with other people--unlike Bush, whose interactions with other people were always all about his dominance over them (I suspect he did that because he was afraid they would laugh at him if he didn't make them fear him).

I feel so blessed that after eight years of Bush we aren't just getting rid of a tragically bad president, we're getting a wonderful, sunshiny, dedicated president in his place.

And seeing the biggest crowds of all on Tuesday, everyone just ecstatic and hopeful... it'll be absolutely beautiful. The waterworks will really turn on then. :)

62. Darn. I'm just too cynical.
I feel that all of this celebration is premature. I'm thrilled he's the next president. But until I see some major home run slams I'm just going to wait and watch.

I just can't get excited. Call me pragmatic, or a party pooper, or something.

66. This isn't about the future..
it's about the present. I think I am one of a shitload of people who have been holding their breath since the election, doubting the day will truly come. Can you imagine the millions of people who have worked very hard,..some for lifetimes to see this day come to fruition? Maybe you can be happy for them.

77. I think so. I do.
There are two sides of this for me. And I'm finding that I'm learning more each day. I've never been one for pomp and circumstance. Yet I've been thrilled about Obama, and what he brings. But then I have doubts. After so many years of being let down. Even by Bill Clinton.

I'm thinking that this celebration may very well not be premature. And in fact is an integral part of the process. I've been so cynical that I've begun to drop out again.

Maybe it's the hope that we can begin where we left off so long ago.

I did speak my mind. But in answering me, you have given me the chance to rethink it. I think I'll postpone my doubt for another time. Until Obama earns my cynicism, I am going to be hopeful. Up until now I have been. I just don't want to be a sucker again. So here we go! One of the brightest families I've ever known. And they're going to be ours.

Thanks. This is good.

One of the reasons we are where we are.

80. The future is unknown..

the best laid plans never come off exactly as predicted. If you can't enjoy the moment, what is the point of living? And if you can't appreciate all that went before to make this moment possible, what does that say about the inevitable set-backs, and all the struggles we will all have to go through to achieve future goals?

63. Only for the past three months
The thing is, I'm not an overly emotional person. I'm not particularly sentimental. I don't cry at weddings. But this is so huge in so many ways, I'm totally verklempt. I've always been politically aware and involved, but I've NEVER seen an election that had me in tears all the time the way this one has! I can't wear mascara. The neighbors probably think either I had everything invested in Circuit City or my marriage is in deep trouble, the way I'm always weepy-looking.

74. Me too.......(your comment about the neighbors cracked me up!)
I've NEVER been openly emotional..ever.
I don't cry at weddings, prefer not to go to any funerals (I honor the passed in my own private way) and I'm known as a political cynic, mostly.
However...THIS has knocked my socks off.
I've been politically aware since the late 60's but this time...I'm really sitting up and paying attention.
I'm truly surprising myself on a regular basis when my eyes are regularly tearing up.
(it's just not like me)

64. Yes
And what a wonderful thing to have tears of joy and hope rather than sorrow and disbelief.

68. Frankly, I'm having a hard time getting excited about it
I feel much the same as I did immediately after the election, that this isn't a victory so much as a necessary precondition for things to stop getting worse, and the long and dispiriting two months that followed (economic collapse continuing unabated, the strife in Mumbai and the Gaza Strip...) only underlined that feeling for me.

Thomas Friedman had the right idea*; swear Obama in in the back of Air Force One like LBJ and let him get to work.

69. Bryan, I'm inclined to agree with you. These are 'desperate'
times for many Americans and for a multitude of reasons. I guess that's why I'm not hyped.

71. I've was unable to stop watching the coverage.
The only reason I stopped watching was that the coverage ended - lol.

It's been difficult to hold back the tears - I can feel that same feeling I felt on election day welling up inside me again.

76. I work as a valet. I had a few minutes between clients --
I was inside the airport for a few minutes before my customer's plane arrived.

I sat down in the baggage area, where they had CNN playing for people waiting.

I was only there for 10 minutes...watching the crowds on TV yell and scream at the train in excitement...
snippets of speeches between commercial breaks.

I couldn't believe I was tearing up just sitting right there in the middle of the freaking luggage area, watching stupid CNN.

Had to get up and leave even though I could have sat a few more minutes -- I was afraid I would get too choked up before I had to drive.

81. Been crying with relieft and joy for days now
I've found myself moved to tears just about every time that man opens his mouth!

What a relieft to be moved to tears rather than moved to outrage and fury every time I see/hear the president!
