This is one of the reasons I like Garth Brooks so much
He sang it today: :loveya:

We Shall Be Free

This ain't comin' from no prophet
Just an ordinary man
When I close my eyes I see
The way this world shall be
When we all walk hand in hand

When the last child cries for a crust of bread
When the last man dies for just words that he said
When there's shelter over the poorest head
We shall be free

When the last thing we notice is the color of skin
And the first thing we look for is the beauty within
When the skies and the oceans are clean again
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud
cause we shall be free

When we're free to love anyone we choose
When this world's big enough for all different views
When we all can worship from our own kind of pew
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Have a little faith
Hold out
cause we shall be free

And when money talks for the very last time
And nobody walks a step behind
When there's only one race and that's mankind
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight,
Walk proud,
Have a little faith,
Hold out
We shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight,
Have a little faith
We shall be free

1. Do not become offended if your family members become concerned about your 'stress' levels.
Just go with them to see the doctor.

10. That's a weird reply.
Is that an inside joke of some kind?

I hope so. Rhiannon55 is an awesome person, and your post seems like it could be implying something not very nice.

28. That's exactly it, as a matter of fact.
(I happen to remember from a discussion I participated in last night - that poster simply loathes Brooks for some reason, and is not shy about saying so.)

2. And, now I really like Garth Brooks...
Especially when he said, "God Bless America" "God Bless the World!"

Nobody says that:bounce:

5. I'va always liked this one, after the Oklahoma City bombing (he's from OK):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFfZmzgdpZQ

Lyrics:

One hand
Reaches out
And pulls a lost soul from harm
While a thousand more go unspoken for
They say what good have you done
By saving just this one
It's like whispering a prayer
In the fury of a storm

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

This heart
Still believes
The love and mercy still exist
While all the hatred rage and so many say
That love is all but pointless in madness such as this
It's like trying to stop a fire
With the moisture from a kiss

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

As long as one heart still holds on
Then hope is never really gone

I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world we know
Never changes me

What I do is so
This world will know
That it will not change me

14. Vince Gill is also from Oklahoma City and was very involved
in helping out after the OKC bombing. Woody Guthrie is another Oklahoman and one of his songs was sung today.... This Land is Your Land.

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me.
As I went walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me that endless skyway
I saw below me that golden valley
This land was made for you and me.
I roamed and I rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
While all around me a voice was sounding
Saying this land was made for you and me.
When the sun came shining, and I was strolling
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
A voice was chanting, As the fog was lifting,
This land was made for you and me.
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me.

16. My sis lives in Oklahoma and has seen him
Says he is a good guy and a good dad...he's just another one of the locals to the people in the area. They've exchanged waves at a stop sign more than once, just like people in small towns tend to do.

7. K&R for Garth!
I was mighty surprised to see him today; I thought that Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were the only Democratic country singers... I even thought that I'd specifically read that Garth was a conservative Republican, but now I realize that I'd gotten him mixed up with Toby Keith.

Good for him! I'm very glad my eyes have been opened--it's always a real treat to find out something nice about a person, especially a person who could take the easier path towards popularity but chooses the correct one.

8. Toby Keith is a Democrat...
He's just a really pro-war Democrat. He actually voted for Obama. But he made some REALLY inflammatory songs about bombing other countries.

24. He made inflammatory comments about blacks too
concerning our voting habits. he basically said the only reason blacks were voting for Obama was because he was black.

Stupid!!!!

Everybody knows that hillary had the black vote on lock until Iowa and stupid comments on the campaign trail.

It is EXTREmely hard for me to believe that toby keith voted for Obama.

27. It's funny - I don't really like their music.
It's real teenybopper sugary music. Sugarland is a perfect name for her group.
That said, they are topping the country charts.

Tonite was a surprise to me as well.

29. Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard
Willie was an active Kucinich supporter in '04 - he usually doesn't endorse, but is consistently progressive with his politics and views (biodiesel is his latest activist project).

Haggard endorsed Hillary during the primaries. He is an independent, and would vote person before party, but he never liked the Bushes and was not enamored of McCain. He and Willie are close friends, so I think they have more in common than most people realize.

11. I'm not a country & western fan so I kind of surprised myself.
When he sang the Isely bothers "Shout" and I saw the crowd reaction, I came as close to losing it as I did through the whole great concert. As it was, I watched the whole thing trough teared up eyes.

12. I liked Garth before he became a mega star
My kids even like him.

Haven't bought any of his stuff for years but I loved
a couple of his albums.

You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin' as it flows
And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores...and

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow
Has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
And say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tide...yes

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all...yes

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

Yes, I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
'Til the river runs dry

17. here's another great Garth song....
another thing I love about him is he writes most of his own songs...
this one and We Shall Be Free and the River above are all his original stuff..

If Tomorrow Never Comes...a great reminder to us all....

Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
Shes lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart

(chorus)

If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That shes my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes

cause Ive lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where theres no second chance to tell her how I feel

*chorus*

So tell that someone that you love
Just what youre thinking of
If tomorrow never comes

the biggest star in country music in 1993 has some courage, no?

yeah he was richer than God back then so who cares, but he didn't have to say the right thing, but he did.
