msnbc is giving weird medical reporting Senator Kennedy was conscious but was
having a seizure. Loss of consciousness is part of seizing.

1. No it isn't, not when you suffer from brain tumors
I am living proof.

2. And not all epiletics lose consciousness when they seize, either.

4. My beloved ex has syringomyelia and suffers from them too.
nothing is more frightening than a loved one having a seizure and seeing the fear in their eyes, nothing.

3. The seizure was probably over.
I imagine a valium injection was administered to stop the seizure.

He would probably be able to speak after it was over.

6. I would doubt that anything was administered until he got to the hospital
had his vitals checked and was seen by a doctor.

10. Well, I certainly carried injectable Valium with me
wherever Romeo went with me, which was everywhere.

You don't want the seizure to continue any longer than necessary, and you can stop them cold with Valium.

12. Not all seizures are the same. I'm glad you found Valium helpful and let's hope Sen. Kennedy
had something to help him as well, but it's just as likely he did not.

13. Who is Romeo?
I don't recall hearing that Ted had a doctor with him at all times, nor a PA or NP.

15. My beloved Golden Retriever.
His neurologist prescribed injectable Valium for me to have with him at all times.

Extended seizures, he said, can further predispose the brain to irritability and further seizures.

16. I am sorry about your dog, but there is no way
a competent MD would have injected Kennedy with Valium without some sort of a workup. It's not like giving someone epinephrine.

7. I have epilepsy
loss of consciousness may or may not happen, it depends on the TYPE of seizure. But it can look to onlookers far worse than it actually is.

9. The patients that I had that had seizure disorders were most of the time
not even aware they had seized until it was over.

11. Agreed.
A seizure looks terrifying to an onlooker.

My sweet, angelic Romeo was transformed into a snapping, foaming, writhing beast from Hell.

I wish I had never seen him that way.

8. When I heard that they were quoting Senator Hatch
as saying Senator Kennedy was conscious, appeared to be in pain, but was also able to communicate.

Hatch is a friend of Kennedy's - he may or may not have been being discrete.
