1. I agree with her 100% on her assessment that both Gov-appointed Senators
were appointed to serve the interests of the Gov who appointed them, and not the greater good of the states they govern.
Neither one of those appointees would have been elected had there been a special election instead of an appointment for
the open Senate seats.

10. Anderson Cooper did the same thing-watched the clip while eating popcorn. I doubt HE lurks here.
I think it was just an obvious idea.

3. Man that speech he gave was awful.......
I thought the cowboy tale he gave was amusing, I really wasn't expecting him to go there. He could have used a whole different analogy but he chose to use cowboys, give it a rest Blago

4. Bless Rachel for bringing up the big issue of vacant Senate seat picks.
It's contrary to what the Constitution intended. It's undemocratic. And those seats should be voted for by the American citizens in those districts.

Damn, at least we have a few in the media with brains.

6. Actually, voting for Senators is contrary to the original constitutional intent
It took the 17th amendment to have Senators chosen by popular vote.

The 17th amendment is also where governors were granted the power, if the state legislatures so chose, to appoint a successor until the next naitonal election.

Frankly, I agree with gubernatorial appointments as special elections, especially statewide special elections, are costly affairs for a single office.

9. It's a democracy. I like how she stated her opinion.
I don't recall exactly, but it was more like royalty picking a duchess rather than the will of the people.

Elections don't have to be expensive. But since we haven't graduated from stealing, electronic voting is still too vulnerable.

Thanks for setting me straight. There's so much complexity in our governing process. More than I'll ever grasp.

12. That's why I like how Wyoming appoints a successor
In Wyoming, the state party central committee of the party the former Senator was a member is given a period of time to choose three candidates' names to submit to the governor. The governor then picks one of the three to appoint.

That saves money, there's no switch of parties, and the process, though political, serves the people well.

13. Now that's better.
There's far less room for "cronyism" with that setup.

Thanks for sharing that.

7. Loved the big pop corn.. You know she gets a kick out of all of this.
Sometimes its just amusing. Blogo is def. amusing.. I'm sorry to the people of IL, but man is he just funny as all hell.. For the last 2 yrs. you can't write half of the stuff coming out of our elected officials and the entire process.. the characters wouldn't be believable if written for screen. Its like one long real life farce. Who could make up Palin and Blago and Sen. Burris? Its just too much fun sometimes.
