Huffington Post: Kirsten Gillibrand "A Dynamic New Leader in the Senate"
At EMILY's List, we greeted the news that New York Governor David Paterson selected Kirsten Gillibrand to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate with cheers and celebration. How wonderful it will be to see this impressive young woman and mother add her perspectives and energy to the hallowed halls of the Senate!

Kirsten Gillibrand is a creative leader who is dedicated to public service. EMILY's List endorsed her campaigns for Congress, confident in her 100 percent commitment to reproductive freedom. A champion of progressive values, Kirsten also earned endorsements from the Human Rights Campaign for her commitment to LGBT equality, and the League of Conservation Voters for her commitment to protecting the environment.

Senator-designate Gillibrand represents a new generation of young leaders who understand the way technology has reshaped our world. A cofounder of the Congressional High Tech Caucus, she pioneered openness in Congress by posting her schedule online so her constituents could see exactly whom she meets with and why. She's a model for the kind of transparency and accountability Americans yearn for from their elected officials. Kirsten's also no stranger to old-fashioned grassroots outreach -- since she was elected, she's held regular open "office hours" at local grocery stores throughout her district to stay in touch with the ordinary families whose lives she knows are profoundly affected by her actions in Congress.

Kirsten Gillibrand won a solidly Republican House seat in 2006 by defeating a corrupt, four-term Republican incumbent. Some thought it was a fluke, and Republicans targeted her for defeat early. But in 2008, Gillibrand handily defeated a well-known, well-funded GOP challenger -- a former statewide official and head of the state Republican Party, no less -- winning 62 percent of the vote.

12. She'll End Up Breaking Your Heart. Big Time.

If she's even half as politically ambitious as initial reports indicate, she'll start losing the NRA rah-rah thing pretty quick---if she wants to get any further in New York or national politics. Hell, she's already stepping back, talking about supporting the rights of "hunters"---and as we all know from our helpful DU gun obsessives, only 0.00000086 percent of gun owners in this country are hunters, right?

Enjoy your infatuation, it's sorta cute. In a creepy sort of way....

17. Yeah, Well. There's An Upside For The DU Gun Militants.

Once Gillibrand breaks their hearts, they'll have yet another Democrat to hate. That'll perk them right up, believe me....

5. I'm glad someone is standing up for her.

The reaction by some here is complete bullshit. She seems to be a perfectly capable person. She is pro-gun and liked by the Chamber of Commerce. So fucking what? She's also good on a lot of other issues. And the worst part about the reaction by some here is that you are not from NY state. So your opinion is meaningless shit. The only opinion that matters is from the 9 million voters in NY. I happen to be one of those people and I am willing to give her a chance.

He parents were politically active Reps and her grandmother was a well known Dem. I imagine there are a lot of people on both sides wishing her well.

7. Uh, hello. I think we should wait and see how she does
before giving her a crown. I recall lots of punits doing that to Palin. She was the new star of the Republican party. Yeah, that worked out pretty well. Not.

I've read a couple of articles and heard a pundit of two claiming Gillibrand is the new star of the senate, which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. How could she be a star when she hasn't done a thing yet? She hasn't even been sworn in. Let's just wait and see how she does before annointing her star of the Senate.

female senator to the least recognizable/powerful..but she's female and blonde...I thought only republicans thought that women were like legos..fully interchangeable:)

The same source you summarily shoot down with ridicule when anybody else links to it, right?

Just checking.
