Rush Limbaugh Backpedals on Barack Obama
Edited on Sat Jan-24-09 04:14 PM by Puzzler
By Stan Simpson:

"A day after saying he hopes new President Barack Obama fails, I heard conservative radio talkie Rush Limbaugh do some serious double-speak on his radio show today that he actual supports the new president. He just doesn't support Obama's policies."

3. Ooops, the Magic Asshole has stepped over the line again.
How often will he do this before people say ENOUGH? He's way past being put in the Naughty Corner or sent to bed without dessert (that would help him, though). That litle shit needs The SWITCH. And he needs his favorite toy, that stupid show, taken away from him.

17. We need to hook him up to a permanent IV for Oxycodone
He can lie in bed all day, whacked out on Oxy

We don't have to deal with him

Everyone wins!

8. I actually listened to his show
and he waited until about 45 minutes in before attempting to back pedal and trip over his lazy fat blowhard ass... And the irony in his bloviating is that he misses the fact that it was his OWN former President and that President's appointees who were the ones who "nationalized" the banks, et al, not Obama. :eyes:

It sounds like an oxymoron to me! I can't see how you can support any politician without supporting his ideas????

20. I don't know -- did we here at DU support chimpy but not his policies
Edited on Sat Jan-24-09 05:11 PM by onenote
and if we didn't, were we wrong to want chimpy to fail?

Rush is steaming pile of horseshit, but this "want the president to fail" controversy is just a tempest in a teapot. I'm glad if it makes rush look bad, but the fact that he wants Obama to fail in carrying out his proposals and agenda is no more surprising (or subversive) than the fact that I and millions of other Americans wanted chimpy to fail to carry out his proposals and agenda.

35. want * to fail? Hell, no.
His failure meant more people fell into poverty & hunger; more lives lost; more of the environment trashed; more revenge stacking up in the world; more RW religious zealots recruited.

39. There's a big difference, really. And the difference is down not to just policies, but agenda.
After Nahn Wun Wun, Bush had ninety percent of the country behind him (I was not among that number). Most of the world felt empathy for us. When he CHOSE to invade Iraq, his agenda became apparent. People wanted his agenda to just...STOP.

The only big thing on Obama's plate is the economy. Sure, you can bring in all that "wedge issue" shit, like abortion and stem cell and all of the silly shit that politicians use to put people on one side of the line or the other, but that's not the Big Thing nowadays. It's "Great Depression, Version 2" that's the elephant (and it was the GOP's spend-spend-spend and deregulate-deregulate-deregulate policies that helped bring this on, though they weren't the only actors by any stretch) in the room.

Thus, if Idiot Assboil wants the President to fail, he wants the ECONOMY to fail. Like it, or not, Obama's presidency will be defined by this economy--at least at the outset. If he can vault this obstacle, it's on to bigger and better things. But right now, Obama is married to this economic mess, and he's got the job of leading the country out of it.

42. We didn't want him to fail, we just knew he was going to
Or that his policies were going to fail the American public.

Oxyrush has a much harder case to make since his side has had 8 years to show their ideas succeed. Application of their ideas failed, and the election result shows that.

38. It's like supporting the troops but not the mission
Politics makes things very weird, especially in a time of war or conflict where patriotism is called for even in the midst of differing opinion.

most afn programming is donated. There seems to be an assumption that rush gets a lot of money from being on AFN. Is there any evidence one way or the other?

28. I sure as hell hope not
The last thing I want to see in this country is the government cracking down on non-threatening criticism of elected officials. I was highly vocal in my criticism of Nixon and then, at least with respect to the war, of LBJ, and again of chimpy. And if the occasion occurs someday in the future under a different administration than the one we have now (and while I hope it wouldn't, history suggests the pendulum does tend to swing back and forth from time to time) I expectto be vocal and antagonistic towards some administration in the future. That's why there is a first amendment.

I wrote and complained as I know thousands of others did. They cannot continue to pump his radio show to the troops if he opposes their commander-in-chief. Obama is not just another Dem for Limbaugh to kick around.

32. No, that's NOT what he was saying
I happened to be listening to his show.

Fat Ass made it clear that he was phrasing it like that to show how stupid liberals sounded when they said they support the troops but not the war.

Limbaugh never once claimed that he really supported Obama. It was a joke, and the listeners, I assume, all got it.
