Limbaugh says he's against stimulus because its success could hurt GOP’s electoral chances.
Edited on Sun Jan-25-09 06:31 PM by Cash_thatswhatiwant
On Friday, when President Obama met with congressional leaders from both parties to discuss his economic recovery and reinvestment program, he told GOP leaders, “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.” Asked for a response by National Review yesterday, Limbaugh said that Obama’s “plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters.” He added that passage of the stimulus bill would hurt Republicans electorally:

Obama’s plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR’s New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would also simultaneously seriously damage any hope of future tax cuts. It would allow a majority of American voters to guarantee no taxes for themselves going forward. It would burden the private sector and put the public sector in permanent and firm control of the economy. Put simply, I believe his stimulus is aimed at re-establishing “eternal” power for the Democrat Party rather than stimulating the economy because anyone with a brain knows this is NOT how you stimulate the economy.

Limbaugh’s argument echoes former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell’s recent claim that Obama’s stimulus plan “could create a major electoral advantage for Democrats at taxpayer expense.” “Creating 600,000 new jobs might help cement Virginia in the Democrat column, making it harder for Republicans to retake the White House,” said Blackwell.

3. Thanks for the endorsement Rush...
Your fear would seem to indicate your belief the plan would work. (Along with a few million more Americans.) If you thought it would fail (and thereby help your party) you'd be all for it.

Thanks Rush. Now take about a dozen Percodans and call us in the morning.

5. This is why they are against Nationalized Healthcare as well.
They are extremely afraid that the White working class will wake up and realize that the GOP hates them.

I'm sure he regrets playing 'Barack the Magic Negro' now that he's in charge.

7. Republican strategy is to stop any stimulus that Obama proposes. It's simple:
if things improve during the Obama administration, republicans chances will not improve.

9. Lemme get this straight...
The Democrats implement wise economic policy that creates millions of jobs and pulls this economy out of the tailspin, thus earning more Democratic votes.

This is bad for what reason?

10. It's like this...Bush fucked the country up so bad
that Obama is coming into the worse situation for a President since FDR. If he fixes the problems even a little he will be remembered as the greatest SINCE FDR. Which means the GOP would be screwed for a very long time. Shifting voting demographics already favor Democrats, if Obama fixes the economy a LOT of moderate Republicans and Indies may become Democrats permanently. It's a very real possibility and Rush knows that.

i've wondered how people who voted for johnson could turn around and vote for nixon.

or how a state as liberal as vermont is could have ever been considered a solid republican state in the 1980s.

12. Party before country
When FDR came in and cleaned up Republican messes, the Democrats held the White House for 20 consecutive years. That's 2 - 0.... Two decades...One fifth of a century...Maybe Obama will start the roll that doubles that record

14. Yup and prior to Roosevelt, the Democrats could never win the WH.
They were a strong local party, especially in many of the cities, they did well in the congress, but at the national level? It wasn't happening for them.

Prior to FDR, there was one president, Wilson, who was Democrat in 33 years.

Yikes!

20. I was wondering that, myself.
Whenever I hear someone refer to the Democratic Party as the "Democrat Party," I said, "I'm not familiar with that particular political party."

It confuses them until I say, "Do you meant the Democratic Party?" And then I give a small lecture about adjectives and nouns and their usages. :)

24. So he's against something that could very well help to repair our COUNTRY's battered economy..
because it would "hurt" the PARTY? Gee, whatever happened to "Country First"? :eyes: But I guess it doesn't matter much to him, seeing as he probably gets paid millions to spew his hateful rhetoric. Pretty good deal, if you ask me..

Selfish bastard.

25. I intend to send Limpballs a thank you letter for his endorsement of the Democratic Party.
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 02:02 PM by gordianot
Barack Obama was right in linking him to the Republicans. The Republicans such as the Maverick John McCain have even taken to recent endorsement of the Bush tax cut for the rich, which in another life even he criticized. All talk of Bi-Partisanship aside the Republicans want Obama to fail which eventually will result in something they will never recover from. The real nasty partisan Republican wing may well have to resort to the tactics they tried to use against FDR in the 1930's. Treason did not work out well then and it is doubtful it will work out now. Asshole butt pimples like Limpballs only bury the Republican Party deeper in the manure pile.
