Jonathan Turley For Supreme Court Justice.
Does anyone know might be on the short list for a position at the SC?

1. He'd have to stop sticking his mug on TV
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 09:07 PM by bluestateguy
I'm not sure he wants to do that.

He loves the sound of his own voice.

3. yeah he loves the sound of his own voice
clearly.

I mean, I agree with a lot of what he says, but he's pretentious. Did you see his hair? What is going on there? He's got fingerwaves.

30. Hey, lay off his hair. I have the same wavy hair...it's natural...can't do a thing with it.
No matter how hard you try, those waves stay put. After a while, you just quit fighting them.

Anyway, his hair has nothing to do with his abilities.

6. Wow. What brought *that* on.....?
I like the sound of his voice, myself, as he's generally arguing for the Constitution.

7. What brought it on is the fact that I never forgave him for supporting Clinton's impeachment in '98
He shamelessly went on TV every frackin day, denouncing the Clintons and giving legitimacy to a process that never should have been authorized and never should have been waged.

I have a long memory.

23. Ditto..
he beat the Clinton impeachment drum loud and long on any cable tv show that would have him. I'd never trust him for the USSC.

4. Don't know, but if Turley is on a short list, that's awesome.
That's the kind of SJC nominee that would make me very happy.

5. I believe there are several women at the top of the list
http://michiganmessenger.com/12161/granholm-mentioned-as-possible-scotus-nominee

"The three obvious candidates are Elena Kagan (SG), Sonia Sotomayor (CA2), and Diane Wood (CA7). The sleeper candidate is Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm."

8. Not happening. His televised musings alone disqualify him.
He essentially would have to recuse himself for any case touching the issues he's discussed.

12. I'm getting sick and tired of him assuming that Obama won't prosecute war crimes
he doesn't know that and he needs to stop saying it.

15. Naw. He's been basically repeating himself saying the same thing over and over again,
Meantime he is basically indicting Obama as though Obama doesn't need to first find his way around the maze that would be called the Former Bush WH. In otherwords, Turley wants action now, now, now....while what would be better is for the government to first gain an AG, and then for there to be some discovery, i.e., evidence digging in order to have a case to present.

Rome wasn't built in a day, but Turley doesn't seem to have a single clue that this is the case.

17. No. but I would hate for memories to be short and the economic disaster
to allow us to sweep another Bush as favorable in the history books.. FDR should have taken that family out the first time; let's hope Obama does so now. AND to me, if he doesn't do something about the past and continues some of the similar procedures, Obama is putting himself in jeopardy of Republicans coming after him.

One of the reasons that he needs to end the Iraq war is because it was a War of Aggression. The UN did not support us, but because we have a large military, they are unable to stop us. The reason he needs to get out and not pass go is because the entire Iraq War is a war crime.

18. I don't know about that, but I LOVE what I just heard him say about
who should be investigated for torture/war crimes - he specifically named Bush, Cheney and those in charge immediately below them (the big names).

That's the most adroit, reasonable thing I've heard anyone say on the issue in a long time...

I hope this stuff doesn't just get ignored - Turley seems to know what the heck he's talking about.

If not SCJ, an adviser or adjunct/associate AG to work with/for Holder in some fashion... we need people who will say things like this who actually have the power of office to put such words into action... no?

Awesome...

19. I'm not sure if he's on the list
but I think a woman will get the first open Supreme Court seat. I've heard Sonia Sotomayor's name mentioned the most for the position.

20. He's only famous for being completely mesmerized by Bill Clinton's zipper.
For those old enough to remember...Turley was hypnotised by the Clenis.

The Clenis was all Turley could talk about for months and months.

22. He doesn't stand a chance
he's a tv commentator. Reputedly on the short list are Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, Diane Woods. The first is the Dean of the the Harvard Law School, now SG, the other two are sitting Federal Appeals court judges.

25. This is just ridiculous. Turley stands zero chance of being nominated
and if by some miracle he were, he stands zero chance of being confirmed. And if you don't think Breyer is a constitutional scholar, think again.

29. Erwin Chemerinsky should be on this list! Consitutional Scholar and on our side!

Check out how some tried to push him out of Cal-Irvine for his "politics"...

http://articles.latimes.com/2007/sep/18/local/me-uci18

Given his reception there, I think he'd be ready to switch to SCOTUS if asked...
