What is wrong with the Republicans?
I've been reading about the fall of Germany during the last days of WWII. It's fascinating to read about how many people just didn't get it even as they were being shelled by the Russian and saw thousands around them fleeing west. There are hundreds of accounts of people who were convinced right up to the end that the Fuhrer would win.

Now I am hearing every day about the economy collapsing around us; hundreds of jobs lost every day, people being evicted, thousands of cars being parked in storage lots with no possibility that they will ever be sold. Obama has been President for only a week, and I'm worried that he's doing too little too slowly. Still, the Republicans are playing games. What the hell is wrong with them?

14. I don't know if there is really antything to discuss. Maybe my outlook is colored by
my recent reading, but it's obvious to me that it's over; we can't keep doing what we've been doing. Families have done everything they can do, first wives went to work part-time, then full time after the kids started school; now mothers are back to work when their infants are 6 weeks old. Families have taken out student loans and a second mortgage and maxed out the credit cards. There is nothing left, and things are falling apart. Too few people control too much money and it's forcing our economy to a grinding halt. To top it off, all you have to do is look outside your window to see that Global Climate change is upon us. We can't keep doing what we've been doing.

15. That in a nutshell is what anyone who is still making it does not
understand. That way of life worked as long as there were just a few of us in that position but it is all too apparent now that we are all in this boat. We are broke and no amount of stimulus is going to help unless it make each of us solvent again.

17. I think Obama is going for an immediate stimulus to try to keep all the
wheels from falling off the next few weeks, but that he's also going for long term permanent changes in how we do things. That's why I find the Republicans so flabbergasting. They just don't get it that this is not a temporary set-back. They think all we need is a little temporary tweaking and we can all go back to doing what we were doing a year ago.

right-wing, fascist ideology.

President Obama and the Dems are crazy to think that they will ever compromise. If it's not family planning; it'll be tax cuts. If it's not tax cuts, then it's more tax cuts. If it's not more tax cuts, then it'll be something else. They want our president to fail. They hate America; the only thing they love is their own greed and the greedy of their *rich* corporate cronies.

"Too few people control too much money and it's forcing our economy to a grinding halt."

It would have been funny if it weren't so tragic when I heard paid for pundit puppets earnestly question candidate and now President Obama regarding, tax cut repeals or expiration for the mega-wealthy.

No matter the condition of the nation as a whole, this always seemed to be the centerpiece of corporate media concern. Such a small percentage of the people making more than 200-250k a year and yet this was rarely if ever emphasized by the well paid for "free press".

Today Congressman Boehner and his ilk have taken up the plight of the mega wealthy and no doubt the corporate media will give plenty of credence to their crocodile tears.

7. What's worse, is the Democrats are letting them get by with the game playing
all in the name of "setting a new tone" and "bipartisanship" - even though the Republicans have made it clear they aren't interested in either. It's time for the Democrats to grow spines (I can dream) and start putting the best interests of the country ahead of getting brownie points for playing well with others. They can call it "tough love" and claim that that isn't partisan.

8. Their quandry is really about what their party has become
Their battling ideologies. The GOP of the mid 20th century was basically fiscal conservatives-states rights-libertarianism-self reliance... Since Reagan & Bushco the GOP is anti any tax-corporate welfare-religious right dogma. They still talk the fiscal conservative meme but the deficits under their administrations have rendered their credibility with all but their own diehards worthless.

How fast they can recover depends on how far they are willing to go recapture their old values. From the look of things, they won't be able to get out from under the coalition they've built any time soon.

9. Where to start?
If we just concern ourselves with the here and now I think the problem is this, They've wedded themselves to right wing hate radio and FOX News. The Limbaugh's and Hannity's of the world are stuck on stupid. They have to keep delivering what their loyal audiences want, that's anti liberal/democratic raving on a 24/7 basis. The GOP leadership must follow where hate radio & FOX lead them even if it's over a cliff. Their greatest weapon is now an anchor around their necks dragging them to the bottom.

27. They are simply damaged people
Child abuse is rampant in our nation, much of it conducted by authoritarian, traditionalist parents. They have created a seething anger in their children, which they must in turn repress because they were taught to do so at the end of a stick. This anger manifests itself in many ways, but politics often plays a role.

Or perhaps they are just retardos.
