The Republican't party is hanging itself
We don't need to do it, they are doing it for us. The overwhelming public opinion will be that the democrats wanted to create jobs through spending and cut middle class taxes, but the republicans refused to support them because they didn't get their business tax cuts.

People will remember President Obama making a big show of meeting with them and including them, and getting not a single vote in return.

1. Sure seems so
Edited on Wed Jan-28-09 06:49 PM by wryter2000
It depends on how the corporate media spin it.

5. The Dems In Congress Need To Get Out And Tell The American Public .......
why the Repugs didn't vote for this bill. They can't let corporate media spin this.

15. CBS
Actually, I thought the message came through pretty clearly on CBS last night. "Not one Republican voted for the stimulus package!" Almost breathless. Given that the package is popular, I think this one will bite them in the butt.

You're right that the Dems need to hammer this, though. It should make good campaign fodder for 2010.

local program spouting all the usual right wing shit, just like they did when they tried to stop Social Security & Medicare in days past. They are completely crazy.

In any rational world, your theory would be foolproof. However, we have a mass media machine in this country that can radically twist people's views of things. Take, for example, the currently popular revisionist notion that FDR's policies made the Depression worse. In reality, the only thing FDR did wrong was to commit too few resources to public works, not too much. And then in '36=7 he blinked and cut his interventionism at the demand of the corporatists of the time, and tumbled the country into a little recession in the midst of the Depression.

33. That's why the number one problem in
America is the brainwashing via the corporatemediawhores and the corporatemedia is Public Enemy Number One.

Obama is going to the people like he did in the primaries and the general in order to get the message out in spite of the cmw.

6. They need to be publicly humiliated
You think the guy leaving a warehouse with a pink slip should fell humiliated?
No! We need to publicly call out known republican voters every chance we get.
Humiliate them. Embarrass them in offices, stores, warehouses, and factories.
We all know a few.
Ask them why they voted for the wholesale destruction of our country.
Point them out as the ignorant, narrow-minded, selfish people that they are.

7. I agree
I think this is how he inoculates himself.

He knows the rightwing in this country is extreme, he realizes they will always be trying to destroy him politically no matter what he does, so Instead of acting like a jerk, he acts nice and moderate. He gives them a chance to compromise to work together, and then they whine and bitch when they don't get it exactly the way they want it.

If the Bill gets filibustered they look like bitchy little cry-babies and Obama can say, "I tried to work with them, but they would not make any compromises" and then point out he was trying get a bill that would help more then corporations, which they had no problems giving the money under Bush with no strings attached!

The Re thugs better vote it in, or in 2010 they will lose all minority power in congress.

8. Mike Castle
Long time lurker, first time poster but Mike Castle (DE-AL) needs to be ousted from this overwhelmingly Democratic state. He has chosen Limbaugh over Obama (we went for Obama 60%+). Any Delawareans agree?

17. In Delaware it seems once in office, a person can get reelected over and
over just on their name. And he used to be the governor. But he has to go. He is really arrogant and won't meet with his constituents the way other congressmen do. In del. there is only one Congressperson so they think they are bigger people than they are.

All of the media markets in my area are shown in Delaware to. If the neither side is even putting up any commercials in a race, then you know that it probably isn't considered a competitive race. My guess is the democrats couldn't find a first rate challenger.

11. all one needs to do is to look at their real leadership.
boner? ha. He spends more money on his tan than anyone I know. His following is mainly limited to a few in congress and a few in Ohio.
Bitch McConnell? No matter how nicely nicely this evil creep tries to appear, he is a jerk, a pompous ass, and not exactly warming the hearts and minds of conservatives.

that leaves us with

RUSH LIMBAUGH.

As that farside comic once said, "oh please, oh please oh please!"
If, as some punditory purveyors suggest, he is the titular GOP leader at this point in time, the future of our country is assured. this blowhard has about as much ability and talent, and knowledge, as Sarah Palin.

as we all know, it's about getting your message out and framing it. I'm afraid we are losing that battle. What we deem a victory can easily go the other way based upon who owns the spin.

20. Sure they are, just keep telling yourself that
Meanwhile the 'Pugs will continue to stuff more tax cuts into the stimulus bill and take our real, job creating stimulus spending. Hmmm, looks more like the 'Pugs accomplished their goal to me.

This isn't some grand game of political judo, this is trying to save the real life economy, and so far the Dems have failed miserably to do that. Instead they have caved to 'Pugs and we're going to be spending what little precious cash we have on more tax cuts and less stimulus.

Looks more like the 'Pugs win, the Dems fail, and the rest of us, well we'll all lose.

23. I have a vision

I would love to see thousands of pink slips delivered to the Repubs as they leave the senate for a press conference.

the pink slips of american workers. piled up high. with notes on them about the families starving, freezing, struggling, dying.

And of course, our own press to make sure we get good video, pictures, etc. An American flag on the top of the pile, waving resolutely in the wind.

A nice quick reference that could be played over and over again in the press. the press would love something that easy to digest. It would get coverage....

anyone know where i can buy a bag full of pink slips?

25. You are correct sir!
And I predict this will be a major theme of the 2012 election. Barack knows that the overwhelming majority of voters could care less about this party or that party. He will hold on his democratic base while (again) appealing to those in the middle who claim to have no party affiliation. "*I* tried to work with these guys from day one, and they fought me all the way!"

Mark my words. ;)

the agenda. So we get 4 more Senate seats in 2010. Big deal. Harry Reid will still let the 36 Repukes have their way.

This leaves the public wondering whether the republican party doesn't understand their struggle, or they just don't care. People also remember how fast the republicans were to help out the banks, but now they drag their feet. They deserve to hang.
