Does anyone seriously think that Obama lost out in the stimulus deal?
Let's see: Obama makes a big effort to reach out to Republicans: ignored.

Obama cuts a few minor items which were probably put in the stimulus bill specifically to be expendable. Republicans vote no anyway.

Obama gets to go out and say to the public "Well, I tried." The Republicans get to look like assholes for opposing a massively popular measure.

Obama 3, Republicans 0.

1. I read a few articles this morning that were fun.
They pretty much indicated that the GOP wasn't ready to play nice. Love it, because it's true.

2. May be. Only problem is the part where he gets out and say to the public,

Right now, all I see on TV is M$M a*holes and GOPers saying he lost his first big battle, because the Dems refused to be bipartisan (a couple of exception like Frank yesterday on CNN). A load of crap, of course, but it is all there is on the media.

3. When the dust settles, the newspapers are going to be "Democrats pass stimulus, Republicans oppose."
The Republican talking heads are whining because there was too much spending, or not enough, and they're coming off like children.

5. When Obama is Running for Re-election
he is going to be able to claim a long list of accomplishments, all of which were unanimously opposed by the House Republicans.

7. Those with
an agenda look for anything they percieve negative on Obama but are suspiciously quiet when Obama signs the Lilly Ledbetter Law..who wouldn't like that? :)

8. How about American People 3 - Depression 0
At what point is this about the unemployed, those in danger of losing their homes and their health care and their problems?

I hope to God Obama is not playing games with that.

It's not about Obama, or the Dems in Congress or anything else. It's about the problems of We the People.

Cut the friggin games and get to work.

11. This is also true.
Although politics can't be taken out of the equation because it's Obama's political capital and his signature that gets stuff done. If he does the right thing and the Republicans are willing to work with him, great. If they slap his hand away, he still gets credit for having made the effort, and he still gets the right work done, with even more of the public behind him.

13. And equally important I see it increasing
among moderate republicans. There is a small, but real, group of people who identify themselves as republicans that are not lock-step with what the party has become.

12. Too early to tell
If the economy improves, the President can brag that he and congressional Democrats saved the day.

If it does not improve or gets worse, Republicans may have a winning issue at the polls in 2010.

14. 9 days in and I think Obama knows exactly what he is doing.
I heard the Dems talking about this being a work in progress and that they will add money for infrastructure in conference. I think Obama has conveyed the urgency of this legislation.

I believe the Price is Right strategy is a work in progress:
