2. I'd like to see the memo telling the women to wear red!
Is that Patty Murray kind of hidden and to Hillary Clinton's left? Whoever she is, she didn't get the memo about wearing red.

10. Red tennis shoes!
I used to live in Seattle and got the reference. I've forgotten the exact phrase though. Was she a soccer mom in tennis shoes?

14. Just a "mom in tennis shoes"
So coined when she first ran for Congress in '92. Back then, our national vocabulary was mercifully free of the 'soccer mom' phrase. :-)

I don't live there these days, but did for many years, from the late 80's to the early 00's. :toast:

25. Same here!
I remember when the mom in tennis shoes helped my ex-wife and I get a travel visa expedited for an exchange student from Albania. That young lady was an absolute delight to have in our home, I know she took back many lessons of the goodness of America when she went back.

I've seen far worse symptoms of excessive DU time.

But describing them invariably causes my eyes to twitch (which is a symptom in itself, come to think of it). :D

34. Maybe not. It's a powerful color and demands attention. When I ran for mayor
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 11:06 PM by SharonAnn
I used red as the dominant color in my signs and wore red a lot. A lot! Of course, I like red but then I also like blues and greens. But they're not powerful.

A Dem. woman running for state rep. was at a lot of events with me and unfortunately she wore pastels. She was literally "lost" next to me and surely didn't look powerful. And, she had stunning white hair and looked smashing in strong colors but wasn't used to wearing them.

We used to laugh about it. I've competed in a male dominated profession my entire career (I'm Hillary's age) and have learned to use my height and strong colors to convey power. She works as a mediator and has learned to be low-key in interactions with people who have differing agendas.

Kind of funny.

But politicians know that red is a powerful color. But, of course, men would look odd in a red suit. At least in the United States.

It's "Women rule!" color.
