I think our President needs to address the nation soon. Like next week.
Can he deliver a state of the union address in his first couple of weeks?
Is that unprecedented?
Has any President done that before?
I suppose I should have done the research before I posted this.
I'm an idiot, what can I say?

I had just left DU and was reading the Huffington Post and their headline jumped out at me.
It was about our President who was not too happy with CITI and their new jet, and Merrel Lynch and their billions in bonuses.
Do this now.
After the Super Bowl is over and all the hype has died down.

He's got the country behind him and he needs to tell them a story.
I think we're ready for some truth.
Billions of dollars in bonuses and a new luxury jet while...

An old man dies in his apartment in 32 degree temperatures because he got his heat turned off.
With every layoff comes another American family without health insurance.
CEO's accepting bailout money and then using it to lobby against the American worker.
The coming war, and it will be a war, on health care and the employee free choice act.
Desperate and jobless, people are taking their own lives, and often their families with them.
Layoffs, coming soon to a company near you as far as the eye can see.
California, a major economy in itself, will be broke in the next six months.
And we have CITI and their new jet, and Merrel Lynch and their billions in bonuses.
He can do this.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to think that things are about to get really interesting.
Three or four more months like the last two, and we are in real trouble.

He's got the country still focused on him and he's been on point.
If he addresses the nation, and tells us how he intends to make sure that no elderly American dies alone cold and unwanted...
He could capture our hearts and minds.

And he can push this country in a new direction.

I'm just saying.

1. You're not asking too much. Also, he needs to explain ...
Who got us into this mess. He's going to have to.

2. I agree, he does need to address the nation now. Because he hasn't done so as President yet.
Everything is different now that he's been elected.

Think about it. A huge chunk of America, namely Right Wing America, has STILL probably never heard an Obama speech and knows relatively little about the guy aside from misinformation and stereotypes.

Most Republicans probably avoided watching the Inauguration so they didn't even hear THAT address.

So, since he's President and there's a huge national crisis in the economy, he needs to give the first of a series of addresses on that topic, outlining his plan, what he's tried to do reaching out to the Republicans, what he intends to do if his plan is successful, and to talk about the possibility of failure and what that will entail.

Once he has begun making high profile addresses to the nation, anyone who doesn't watch is explicitly admitting that they are tuning out the President and not willing to be informed or educated beyond their preconceptions, to give him a hearing, and their opinions deserve no respect.

3. Unless he comes to my apartment daily and briefs me, he's a failure.
Just sayin.

5. He just addressed the nation 10 days ago
and does it every weekend in a radio address.

But I guess a fire side chat or National Presidential Address couldn't hurt. People generally walk away inspired when he talks.
