First Richardson, then Geithner, and now Daschle.

I think Geithner was the least problem, but the Richardson and Daschle problems are pretty big. Over a 100K in unpaid taxes and a lavish benefits from a private equity firm - that is a lot of unpaid taxes. Shouldn't they know all this information before nominating someone to a cabinet position. And if they do, why don't they release it right away.

When people hear about this crap, the public will think that the Obama Admin is no different than past political administrations; once that are surrounded with corrupt people.

I think whoever is doing the vetting needs to get fired or Obama needs to do a better job in choosing more worthy candidates.

1. It is pretty ridiculous, remember how people were talking about the in depth vetting standards?
They should have spent less time worrying about people's internet habits and more time checking their taxes!

3. What is it with these people and taxes?
Edited on Fri Jan-30-09 09:44 PM by madaboutharry
Seems a little bit weird to me. It would never enter my mind to not pay the taxes that I was suppose to pay. Do they really think no one will notice?

4. They aren't doing a horrible job. They are the ones finding the problems
and making them fix it.

5. I'm sure we all have skeletons in the closet
I would not want to go through the vetting process.

I'm surprised the casualty list is so light.

6. Who do you think is discovering these things?
These are all things discovered by Obama's people during the vetting process and are included in a file that's submitted to the Senate.

http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/reports-ex-sen.-daschle-failed-to-pay-taxes-2009-01-30.html
When the discrepancy came to light in June, during the Obama team's vetting process, he paid $101,943 in back taxes, not including interest, that should have been paid from 2005 to 2007. Geithner's unpaid taxes totaled around $34,000.

10. The vetting process did find out Daschle's tax issue...
Daschle will get the gig. At that point, it would suffice to say that the issue at that point forward should be healthcare reform.

11. What are you talking about?
Only Bill Richardson has been nixed so far. Tim Geithner, Hillary Clinton, and Eric Holder all made it through. I bet Tom Daschle will too.
