Iowa DUers - roll call - who will you caucus for?
If you don't mind me asking. And who is your #2 choice if your candidate doesn't get 15% at your site?

For me, 1. Dennis Kucinich

and if he doesn't get 15%, I think my #2 is going to be

2. General Clark

since he hasn't campaigned a lot in Iowa, and may also not get 15% where I am - Dr. Dean is probably my #3

Just wondering where other Iowa DUers stand for January 19.

3. Looks like a 100 percent turnout
Isn't 3 people the population of Iowa?

5. Dean
and he'll have 15% or more in my room. 2nd would be Clark but I'm not sure he'll have the heads.

6. Kucinich caucus strategy
I have been "shopping for Number 2" actively and openly but never conceding the possibility that I could go for anyone but Dennis on the first round.

I always start by saying I will enthusiastically support any of the nine against, but I will not be deterred from "voting my hopes" at the caucus. To some extent, I fall in love with whichever candidate I saw last, and I acknowledge this to anyone. I admire them all. Then I say I'm glad Dennis WILL be viable in my own caucus, so I won't have to make this tough call. (Slightly informed bluff and bravado, of course.)

Today my list is:

1. Kucinich (with high praise for Mosley Braun and Sharpton)
2. Dean (despite his faults) or Kerry (despite his IWR vote)
3. Gephardt (I'd love to reward his good fight and forgive his IWR vote)
4. Edwards (very attractive but not for this year--unless VP)
5. Clark (could be higher if he hadn't blown off Iowa)
6. Lieberman (last anyway)

Rankings good today only. Subject to change without notice.

If it turns out Dennis is not viable at my caucus (where I will be "temporary" chair), I may try Undecided or jump quickly to my second choice. Unless someone persuades of some strategy before then, I will probably decide on the spot.

If there is an official plan or preference (from our campaign), it hasn't been articulated to my satisfaction.

I attend all campaign events I can make, wearing my Kucinich button, speaking with everyone I can and warmly applauding whenever I can. And speaking with the candidates whenever I can. Yesterday it was Dean. Before the 19th, I expect to see Edwards, Kerry, and Kucinich again in person.

Your question is very important, so let's all keep in touch, through this thread or otherwise. Thanks!

7. yeah iowapeacechief
I too am not totally sure on my #2, but I do like Clark a lot, and Dean. But really in the end, it could come down to the group dynamics in the room that make my decision if Dennis isn't viable. This is where the IA caucuses can get really unpredictable.

To say you know Dennis will be viable at your caucus, I am guessing you are in Iowa City? Perhaps not. I am here in Des Moines, and I cannot really tell.

I think we really could pull off a #3 or a #4 spot, which would be a real victory for Dennis. I don't trust the polls on Iowa right now.

Either way, Go Dennis.

8. Muscatine, but your assumption speaks volumes!
What does it say if we think Des Moines or Iowa City when we say "viable"?

Even Iowa City should take nothing for granted! You are absolutely right about the unpredictable dynamics. That's why I confessed bluff and bravado.

10. pretty surprised at the amount of attention Clark
gets for never coming here.

<snip>
"You could get Clark actually producing a decent showing," he said. "For Clark, if he comes in fourth or even fifth, it's a decent showing."

Clark on Tuesday also left the door open for a return visit to Iowa. "I haven't really considered that, but I want support everywhere across this country,'' Clark said in New Hampshire during an appearance to pitch his plan to change the federal tax code, according to The Associated Press.

Fischer said Clark would be welcomed back. "It's never too late to forgive a mistake," Fischer said.

Clark's small band of supporters in Iowa is scrambling to stir up support. Dale Todd of Cedar Rapids said he is in touch with about 150 supporters across the state who ship out e-mails, write letters to the editor, and plan to buy newspaper ads touting Clark without aid from the national Clark campaign.

17. Surely there are more Iowans on DU!
I don't understand why there's been so little response to this thread. I think it asks one of the most important questions for everyone at DU.
