Poor people and black people tend to vote democratic, and the last thing the GOP wants is a few million more angry voters in swing states who know they're getting screwed. There is a part of the stimulus that calls for about $5 billion in community investment, and there is speculation ACORN will get some of the money (the GOP still thinks ACORN stole the 2008 election). They are afraid ACORN will register a few million more voters, putting the GOP even further into the minority. ACORN registered 1.3 million voters in 2008 including about 250k in Ohio, 250k in the southwest (Colorada, NM, NV, AZ), 150k in Pennsylvania, 150k in Florida, etc. After the GOP started attacking ACORN I donated at least $50 to their voter registration drives. Go ACORN. They are fighting to help people who are disadvantaged improve their lot in life.

PS I love the GOP outreach to minorities. Blame the economic crisis on the concept that ACORN forced banks to make loans to blacks and latinos, who then defaulted and now white taxpayers have to bail out the irresponsibility of blacks and latinos (that is the GOP philosophy on why this economic collapse happened) on one hand, then put up a puppet like Steele with the other.

Because he's a joker and he hasn't got shit else to say. Plus, he probably doesn't like poor and urban people actually voting, which is what ACORN tries to do.
