Freeper Crazyness More Than Just Funny

I was driving home from work today and passed a flag flying half mast, and my heart jumped into my throat as I was thinking that something may have happened to President Obama. I frantically flipped to NPR and figured out that nothing happened.

Well you have to hand it to the Freepers and RW headcases and racists - they did accomplish one thing: now I worry to all hell whenever I see a half-mast flag.

So, why was the flag flying at half-staff?

Many Americans will see Fox, Hannity, Rush, Beck and Coulter as shrill ultra-conservatives, but Newsweek is probably thought to be more mainstream. Its a right wing rag to me, but, I don't think many people see it that way.

Flipping around on the tube this morning I caught the most ignorant preacher (I think the show was called Shepherd's Vineyard or Shepherd' Corner) and he actually mentioned the Newsweek cover and then went on to talk about how it is true that the US has been taken over by socialists, but that all "true" Americans, all US military, all Christians and all veterans were not going to just sit back and let that happen. He said that the liberals "had another thing coming" if they thought they could get away with turning America into a socialist country. What the hell any of this has to do with Jesus is beyond me, but still, it was totally bizarre.

I will never understand why socialism is so scary to these people. Never mind that we are so laughably far from being a socialist country.

It was a big flag flying half mast on a building off the 280. NPR was talking about the stim package when I turned to it. Maybe the flag was flying from a post office or DMV or something and one of the workers there suffered a tragedy. Maybe it's the anniversary of a national tragedy, but I don't know of any on Feb 11.
