the man has done more in three weeks than some has done in an entire term.

Shit is F-up and it is going to take more than a month to fix it. I know the repubs want him to fail, because that's the ONLY chance they of taking back congress. But dems?

At least wait a year and then do your critiquing.

I will criticize when it is needed but I am not going to rush to judgement since our President has only been in office 1 month.

President Obama is tasked with undoing 25 years of bad Repbulican decisons and everyone is jumping all over him because he isn't moving fast enough.

I would not deny anyone any feelings they care to have. I think it is a positive thing that people admire the President and are enthusiastic.

However, it becomes a problem when people insist that all of us make those personal emotional feelings and needs the main priority, and then use that to suppress dissent and the free exchange of ideas. That is not "support" of the new administration, nor the President, it is about the person's emotional needs, and that actually represents a threat to the success of the administration.

I'd agree with you if I actually saw that happening. But I don't see it.

What I DO see is a bunch of people terribly upset that other people love the new president too much for their own personal liking, and being very vocal about it.

We are each blind to the experience and reality of people in the other group. It is the same divide and conquer pattern we see all through society.

I am trying to acknowledge and validate people's feelings of infatuation and admiration whenever I can, even though I do not share those feelings.

I think the difference in opinion on this arises from how people look at politics, not from how they feel about Obama.

Canada and I admire your President, I cannot wait to see him on TV. Followed the Primaries, the run up to Election Day like you would not believe. In fact, I took vacation on election day and the Inauguration day.

This is history and we are all so proud of you Americans who supported and voted to elect such a fine man as President. If the citizens of the world could have voted for him, he would have still won. We have a right to feel proud and to admire him, his family, the VP and his family and SOS Hillary Clinton. But we want to celebrate also by viewing pictures of them and am never tired of reading threads that points out the President's accomplishments. He is less than a month in office and already he has done quite a lot. I do look forward to threads posted by Jackeens.

If some DUers are not interested in the so called 'hero worshiping' threads, they can hide them.

President Obama is not perfect but I want him in my living room as opposed to running to the clicker to chase Bush out.

If we admire Obama and his family for anything outside of policy, we're hero worshippers? Fuck, after what we've been through I'm proud as hell that the president can speak not just in complete sentences, but even eloquently. It's great that our president (and in fact the whole first family) radiates class instead of being a shifty-eyed, hunched over, spitting troglodyte.

But here's the thing: I'll still criticize him on policy if I want. I think his attempts at bipartisanship are noble but misguided. I'd rather he told the republicans to go pound sand up their asses and not stop until they were ready to bargain or he gave them permission. I could be happier with some of his cabinet picks. And so on.

But that's all fine, because we're democrats. We don't swear blind allegiance to our leaders like republicans do. We'll call them out when need be. And because of that, we'll never look ridiculous like the Bush defenders all ended up looking. But when push comes to shove, I support the guy. He's the best president I've ever had the pleasure of voting for. I know I won't have a president I agree with 100% until the day I'm elected and no sooner.

But the "hero-worship" stuff? The fact that he has presence? That he has natural confidence? That he looks like he never breaks a sweat (off the court anyway)? That he isn't an embarrassment to our country? That we've finally got another democrat who can live up to the standard of class and dignity the Kennedys set? That's the stuff we should all agree on!

I believe all of us hero worshipers:sarcasm: will support our president 100%, but we will be constructive in our criticism.

For example, I feel at this point he need to tell the repubs to kiss his black azz, but Barack ain't that dude. That is why there is a English girl making youtube videos in the wee hours in the morning calling him her President, and Japanese people doing the hula, and Irish Folksingers claiming him as their own and singing he is more Irish than the Kennedys.

At the end of the day, its been THREE weeks. There has been some mistakes (cabinet, bipartisanship) but look at what he has accomplished.

Worked hard during the campaign and I still have to pinch myself every day. We have this amazing man to lead us, at a critical time in our country's history.

Maybe some people want to forget what we felt on Election Night, or never felt it in the first place, but I'm not ready to let that go. Seems to me the whole point of Obama's candidacy, and why he was so successful, is that he reminded people we need POSITIVE inspiration to move forward. Just being against things isn't enough.

If I drank the Kool-Aid, it was because I was so damn thirsty.

And if I have a little bit of a crush on him, which I won't deny, it's because I find a smart, compassionate, witty, well-traveled, eloquent man attractive. Sue me. Doesn't mean I will always agree with him - I can walk and chew gum at the same time. So can he. So can DU.

To me the best sign of a great leader is knowing when he screwed up and knowing how to fix it, instead of sweeping it under the rug and hope no one notices and when you do call you un-American!!

Hillary during the primaries. My father told me he supported Edwards at first.

However, when Barack Obama won out over Hillary, I didn't pout or cry about it. I simply said, well, OK, I guess I'll support him now.

Then, in an effort to understand him better, I downloaded all the videos I could of all his speeches and debate performances from 2007 and 2008. I also read his two books.

After doing that, I went from supporter to vehement supporter. My father did the same and he's also now a vocal supporter.

I have no problem with supporting him. I support him. I have a problem with blind faith, that ignores all facts.

...knowing that NO ONE can expect to agree with ANYONE 100 percent of the time. And I will appreciate how right he is 99 percent of the time! If you want a perfect President, maybe you should run.

As I have mentioned in a few posts, I can disagree with Barack, but I support his message of Change. For example, I feel he went to overboard with the bipartisanship.

The bipartisanship effort on his part failed, but the bill passed. I might disagree with the method, but if it accomplishes the ideas and promises he made during the campaign I can accept it. Just like I did not agree with clinton receiving bj in the Oval Office by an intern, but I knew he shouldn't be impeached for something that only affected his wife and daughter.

His impact on people will have, IMO, a direct effect on how much he will be able to accomplish during his time as president. Despite the efforts of the sour grapes in House and Senate (and, the enabling media), his approval rating remains high because he is speaking directly to the American people and not hiding behind the walls of the White House.

I hope people continue to be impressed by his charisma, intelligence, and good humor.

As far as making some bad choices, of course he will make some (Warren was an example), but, he is a man who has the capacity to own up to his mistakes and to even sometimes apologize for them (what a concept!).

After the last eight years, we are damned sure entitled.

And no, I don't expect to agree with everything Obama does; I have yet to encounter a president who's infallible. All I know is this: on his very worst day, Obama will be a 1000% better president than Dim Son was on his very best day (if a "best day" exists for that idiot). That's reason enough for me to rejoice.....
