Interesting; Unfortunately It Is Working - Bush Not Running As Incumbent
"What seems clear to me is that Bush is not running as an incumbent," said Thomas Mann, a presidential analyst at the Brookings Institution. "He knows that if the election is framed as a referendum on the incumbent, he will probably lose. And therefore what he's been doing is trying to focus the campaign on Kerry."

1. That's only because he can't run on his record
and the media will happily do everything they can to help him ignore the last four years.

2. Media has dropped the ball on judging Bush's failed performance
It amazes me that the Repub Convention and Shrubs' speech was given a glowing review and a pass by the pundits in the media. He unveiled promise after promise begging the question of why he hasn't done anthing about those things he promised to do in his first term. In fact, he cut spending for several of the programs he promised to increase! Why should Americans believe he will do anything differently in his next term besides more failed policies?

How has he been allowed to be elevated in status by the 9/11 tragedy when the greatest failure of security occurred during his watch and he took us off course so drastically into Iraq.

3. I keep seeing this stupid */Cheney
ad where he keeps saying what he will do if (re)elected. WTF? He's had four years, and a majority in congress and senate to do these things he's offering, now why hasn't he already done them? Its simple, he doesn't really want to (or can't muster the support because they're really stupid ideas) and can't pay for them anyway.

He can't run on his record because a close examination of the facts will show that he's bamboozled half of Americans into thinking they're safer in spite of the fact that we never caught the guy who directed 9/11, that Saddam didn't in fact have anything to do with 9/11, that those who (presumably) did, Al Queda, have increased their resources and members and we've wasted the opportunity to deal them a direct and lasting blow by invading Iraq. We're told daily that another attack might come any time now, but especially during or before the elections, and these morons are feeling safer???
