OpEd on Obama returning Churchill bust to British government
Developing news on CNN - the UK is apparently claiming Obama has snubbed them by replacing the Churchill bust in the White House with one of Abraham Lincoln. Kevin Curwin weighs in:

Yet, President Obama may have deeper reasons for replacing the bust besides making room for good old Abe.

It was under Churchill's leadership that Britain suppressed Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion.

One of the Kenyans allegedly tortured by the remaining colonial regime was Hussein Onyango Obama.

That's right, the President's grandfather.

3. Obama's just removing a piece of Bush 43's legacy from the White House
The Brits loaned it to Herr Decider after 9/11. Now the Brits are getting it back.

Last I heard, one British aristocrat still has an American flag his great-great-great-great-grandfather took from us back during the Revolution. Should we demand that the flag be returned to us, or just let them keep their trophy?

:eyes:

6. I know all of the details. I read them in a British newspaper several days ago
And I don't know what you are projecting, but I didn't say anything about demanding anything back.

Some were making an issue of this saying that it was a dis to England and somehow reading into it in re: to Obama's Kenyan ancestry...hence the "silly season" comment.

The loan was simply set to expire when the next President took office. And Obama replaced it with a bust of one of his heroes: Lincoln.

10. Not projecting anything, here...
Someone is obviously trying to turn this into a major media event, which is really dumb.

4. Yeah. Like this is what the American people care about!
Guess the Corporate Media want to now erode Obama's foreign policy appeal in other nations.

Go, Corporate Media! You have been so right about everything so far! :sarcasm:

8. If that's what they are after it's going to take a lot more for the people of GB and Europe at large
to go sour on Obama than a bronze bust after what WE'VE all suffered for the past eight years!

9. Hmmmm - churchill was a british leader - Lincoln an American
guess who is more deserving of a place of respect in the American White House.

Brits can go worry about the poodle, his war crimes should have their attention, not some bust replacement.

15. Let's see . . . Lincoln vs Churchill. Hmmm. Not a hard choice.
Churchhill is perfectly fine, but he's no Abe Lincoln.
