1. Burkett has originals but wanted to avoid prosecution
for publishing them so disguised them somewhat.

9. exactly--and that is why Bush is now releasing more documents
THey are afraid Burkett has more documents, ones that the White House but has not released, so they are going to release them now in order to preemptively get out in front of burkett.

Burkett took them out of the trash that day, and has them now and knew that if he released them as is, he would be prosecuted. So he fooled Rather and CBS by recreating this. I still think the Right is going to fry Burkett. And Rather is going to be hurt badly by this. But hopefully he will go down fighting.

Our best hope is that Marian Carr Knox goes on a interview spree. She is very credible as to what Bush was all about, and she can hurt him badly.

2. This is just a theory...
Remember when Burkett said he rescued some of the docs from the trash can after Joe Allbaugh was sent to purge the Bush* file?

What if some of the docs were illegible and Burkett recreated them, then pasted Killian's signature on the recreated docs?

Does that make the docs' content any less credible?

4. Did Burkett say that he took anything from the trash ?
I don't remember him saying that, but I may be wrong. But I think he did and he has them.

3. It occurs to me that Killian could have done them himself
AND Burkett typed them from memory, so the DU consensus so far is that they are AT LEAST factually authentic.

6. My understanding is that only one, the CYA memo
would have been exclusively in Killian's personal files. Mrs. Knox has said that she typed similiar documents. She should ask why these are not now in Bush's files.

7. The Superscript and Proportional Spacing
argue against Killian having done it himself, since those were features a trained typist would be more likely to use. So they were typed by a professional secretary.

I am perfectly willing to believe that Killian's secretary typed them herself and forgot -- memory is a very inconsistent and tricky thing. I've found thing in my own handwriting a number of times I have absolutely no recollection of. I do NOT, remember, however, whether she said her typewriter was capable of producing the memos.

10. She may very well have forgotten.
It is a real possibility.

5. Occam's Razor
I think we're all chasing our tails here trying to solve a puzzle that's plain as day.

All things being equal, the simplest explanation tends to be the correct one.

They're fake.
Who and why ? Who cares ?
We're wasting precious time on this.
JMHO.

Rather and CBS yesterday? Think this is a non-issue? Talk to them.

11. How About The Obvious
Some stupid schmuck did it thinking that it would help Kerry, and is now wishing he'd thought it through first.

13. O.K. I believe that Burkett recreated them from memory
it's what we called a facsimile (before fax machines).
