Shock and Awe: Today's Rasmussen- B 49.3%, K 44.7%
Bush UP 2.0 from yesterday, and Kerry DOWN 1.3????

What the fuck? Is this the CBS memo controversy effect? An abberation?

I AM alarmed. Those debates can't come soon enough. I believe Kerry can win this- don't know why so many Amercians have their head up their ass.

4. These Republican polls like Zogby and Rasmussen pose as accurate
so when we get close they go south on Kerry and set the stage for * to steal, steal, steal.

9. Republican polls like Rasmussen?
Interesting. Just a few days ago, when Rasmussen was showing Bush up by only 1% against duble digit lead in other polls he was praised by many on this forum as the only reliable pollster. But when he shows Bush increasing his lead he is filthy Republican.

18. I didn't see any of that.
In fact, he's been pretty roundly criticized around here for being a Republican ever since I joined this board.

The only reason he generates so much interest is because he's the only pollster who comes out with a new poll every day.

5. one negative day in a tracking poll is not a trend
It has to last more than a few days. So calm down.

6. Harris, Economist, et al show race a dead heat
with Kerry trending upward.

Take a chill pill.

7. No trend yet...calm down
One day's events can cause a spike for one guy or the other. Same thing happened a couple of days ago when Kerry spiked up one day. Wait and see if it holds up.

Bush is STILL below 50%

8. sorry you-all, I just had a panic attack
when I saw those numbers, but you all are right- and usually I say the kind of stuff you've said to me. I think I need to eat lunch. Anyway, on a happy note, just read a fantatic new Kerry item:

"President Bush is "living in a fantasy world of spin," failing to tell U.S. troops or the American people the truth about the situation in Iraq Democratic challenger John Kerry told National Guard veterans Thursday."

I feel better now.

10. Get out of politics.
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 01:49 PM by Teaser
If fluctuations in polls alarm you, then get out of politics. If this bothers you, you have no business following it, and you don't have the constitution for it.

I believe you do have the toughness required, though. So buck up. Look the numbers in the eye, know they'll be worse tomorrow, and better again next week sometime.

Statistics is the study of fluctuations, folks. Fluctuations happen, and for *no reason*. Attributing reason to them is foolish, magical thinking.

13. speaks to the reliability (or lack thereof)
in his results.

Don't trouble yourself with Rasmussen's shoddy polling. If you must, then at least look at his track record... which is about the poorest of all of the cheap media polls.

16. Gallup is not going to look good for JFK today either
The only poll that counts is on nov 2nd. While I get a kick out the horse race poll numbers, I don't take them seriously.

By the way, the Gallup poll coming out today is not supposed to be kind to JFK. For those with weak knees or weak hearts, you may want to go on a long walk this afternoon.
