1. They tried to slap him with it during the campaign. How did that turn out?
:D

3. Obama will have to get a thirteen year old to explain to the
republicans what his "budget" is, and then maybe they can get beyond "Obama's a Socialist".

4. Do these right wings
know the definition of a socialist? Do they really believe captalism is the only way or are they stuck in the Fukuyama nonsense of an end of history?

5. A lot depends on the Main Stream Media
Faux News and Sean Hannity spew this fecal matter at every opportunity. The socialist meme is now a stock item on Talk Radio.

While most television news broadcasts have enough integrity left not to repeat this right wing talking point, it is only a matter of time until it finds its way onto the evening news. The breaking point will come when some ultra Reich Wing Congressman makes the Republican rebuttal to a Presidential address. Then the fight will be on.

8. I'm fine with the MSM showing cries of "socialist". Bring it.
Come in, potential single-payer-plan advocates. The water's fine.

6. I don't think Americans are buying anything they are selling anymore.
They have ZERO credibility - thanks to Bush.

7. It will likely backfire in a good way.
I suspect with an upcoming universal healthcare coverage debate, we'll all have a look at "socialist" countries like Canada, France, Germany, etc. A lot of Americans have some peripheral knowledge of how these countries fund healthcare, but haven't given it much thought.

They'll almost certainly have to, and once they've seen that the righties have per usual been crying about nothing, it will defang yet another wingnut meme.

14. "Socialist" Countries Like Canada, France, Germany
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 12:19 PM by TheBigotBasher
It really does show how out of step with the rest of the World the US "Conservative" OP is.

The OP has no political equivalent anywhere.

UK Conservatives - retain a commitment (even through Thatcher) to support the NHS, proper universal health care free at the point of use.

France - has a Conservative not Socialist Government

Germany - has never had anything like a Socialist government, however all of their major Parties recognise that the State exists not just for defence but to look after its citizens.

The OP claims the Conservative mantle; but that mantle was created by Robert Peel and Benjamin Disraeli. Neither of those would have anything to do with the Dirty Rethugs attempting to brand themselves as Conservative.

(Just in case OP == Not so Grand Old Party)

9. If they want to shoot their wad over a measely 3% plus tax increase then let them.
When Obama comes up with something truly sweeping then they will have all ready called him every name in the book and used all their smears whilst duking it out over smaller stuff. They won't have anyplace to go except for repetition and people will be leery because they will have heard it all before.

10. These idiots are so dumb. Socialism means complete or near state ownership of everything
not a few tiny changes in regulations and letting tax cuts expire. So we are going from right-leaning capitalism to center and or left-leaning capitalism. Big whoop di doo. Someone let me know when we have become Socialists, I will throw a Karl Marx party.

11. Obama as of this morning has a very lagre approval rating
and I think most people don't care to hear the things the GOPs are saying about him.
They are really hurting themselves, and they will pay for it in the next election.

15. I think you underestimate the right wing in this country.
They operate on fear and fear alone. They've managed to scare large populations of this country into defending corporations over their own self interest. They've managed to convince most Americans that Iraq was responsible for September 11.They happily find disaster in everything, when they can't fabricate reality out of thin air, they resort to repeating lies until they become truth. I don't put anything past them. At CPAC they are comparing Obama to Bush and the media in this country play along instead of pointing and laughing as any sane thinking person would do. I just watched some airhead on MSNBC ask Pat Buchanan if the Democrats are "creating class warfare",do they ever do their homework? Why not ask Pat Buchanan what the tax rate was in 1962? It was higher and America was more prosperous. When they start their nonsense about the rich creating jobs, why not ask why we aren't overflowing with jobs since we've lowered the tax on the wealthy for over 30 years now? The media in this country are stupid and lazy, until that changes, I figure the right wing in this country operate unimpeded by anyone with any real ability to reach an audience calling them on it and treating them with the outrage they deserve.

17. How could it,
since he is not? He is a centrist, who favors business more than the common people.

I wish he WERE a socialist. I'd like him better.
