ROFL...I Guess that's the end of the HIP HOP Strategy.
I cracked the hell up when the new RNC chairman, Michael Steele, announced a hip hop strategy to attract our folks to the Republican Party. Aside from the fact that the demographic is the LAST one the the RNC could peel away from the Democratic party, we had to deal with the specter of some of the most reactionary conservatives (think Bachmann) adopting the language of the street to show their bonafides. I really thought they had achieved the pinnacle in WTF moments. And then came the Steele-Limbaugh dustup. My My My.

Whatever "street cred" he thought he had (and it wasn't much) , Steele has lost it. I don't listen to rap all that much but I have listened to enough to know that kissing Rush's ass ain't going to flow with those in the know. Think about it: He tried to adopt the language of a sub-culture that celebrates manhood and Black identity and in some cases, aggression and thuggery. And the one chance he gets to "Man Up" and to actually live the persona he is adopting, he folds faster than a Yugo hit by a semi. Steele is getting served on Black talk radio today. Listening to Warren Ballentine's show on the Radio One network this morning and I am laughing my ass off. "Sellout" "House Negro" "Yes Massa" If this is Steele's strategy it's working great for the Dems

And then you have the yahoos that are celebrating Rush and basically sending Steele the message "Boy you better stay in your place". They are sending a much more direct and clear message to the Black community than any token Hip Hop media strategy ever could. And that message is "Don't Bother Niggers" "We really don't want you you here and if we do allow 1 or 2 of you into our increasingly smaller tent, you better shut the fuck up and behave." And Steele's lackey like zeal in kissing up to Rush instead of standing by his words only serves to underscore that message. It would be really interesting if Steele told Rush to shut the fuck up, I'm running this show. But he didn't and because of it, he's being plastered with the Punk label in the very community he is supposedly trying to court. You just can't make this shit up.

If not for the fact that the future of our country is at stake, this would make great theater. Actually I almost wish Palin would get involved in this mess so we can pitch this whole situation as the next, great reality show.

5. Here's Ta'Nehisi Coates from the Atlantic's take.

I've been pretty hard on Michael Steele for his abuse of Ebonics. But I think his most recent sonning courtesy of Rush Limbaugh needs to be put in perspective:

"My intent was not to go after Rush - I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh," Mr. Steele told The Politico. "I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership."
I'm not offended that Steele is kow-towing to Rush. I'm offended that Steele would wrap himself in the garb on hip-hop, and then apologize to Rush.

Man listen: The first rule for establishing "Off The Hook Urban-Suburban Hip-Hop Strategies" is if you gonna dis a mofo, then dis him. Don't come out the box quoting "How You Like Me Now," and then go and apologizes to the guy who you just dissed.

Could you imagine Moe Dee apologizing to LL? Kris apologizing to Shan? Shante apologizing to the Real Roxanne? Hillary Duff apologizing Lindsay Lohan?

Come on man. You ain't no wiling-out-for-the-night-fist-thrower:

Mr. Steele called Mr. Limbaugh after the radio host belittled Mr. Steele on his show, questioning his authority and saying the new Republican leader was off "to a shaky start."
"It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of trying to be some talking head media star, which you're having a tough time pulling off," Mr. Limbaugh said, in a transcript of his remarks he posted on his Web site.
"Mr. Steele: You are head of the R.N.C.," Mr. Limbaugh said. "You are not head of the Republican Party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the R.N.C. and right now they want nothing to do with it."
Shorter Rush Limbaugh--"Don't make me have to call your name out\Your crew is featherweight\My talk-show will make you levitate..."

6. So true
I mean it was insulting enough that he wrapped himself in the cloak of hip hop and thought that would just pulll us Black folk into the Republican party. I mean, we all think alike right?

But then to bitch up when he got called out is fucking funny as all hell. I wonder what the next product release will be.
