President Barack Obama's Urgency of Now; "You realize nobody else is going to fix it if you don't"
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 11:10 AM by FrenchieCat
If the pundits ask, remember the Phrase that President Obama borrowed from Martin Luther King Jr., and used throughout his two years of campaigning. He said it over and over again.

Pres. Barack would say that people would ask him, why run now, you are a relatively young man, why the hurry? He would reply.....it is because of the Urgency of Now.

In other words, this country came to a dangerous precipice, and there are many, many changes that need to be made within our government; many things to undo, many promises to keep.

I remember watching a DNC video that played right before Obama's Mile High Acceptance speech last summer on day 4 of the Democratic National Convention. In the video, Barack spoke about the reasons he went from Community Organizer to Law School at Harvard; because he realized in order to help make real change in the lives of those who needed it, he would have to be credentialed. He also talked about going into the State legislature, and it was discussed the very large number of bills that he put through. It is one of the reasons that he rose in the ranks there, and at some point became the leading candidate for the open Illinois Senate Seat.

In this Video, Barack Obama spoke of the frustration he felt that he could only do so much to make change to help people's lives. I remember near the middle of the video, he stated....."when you read about some injustice, and you say, that's not right, somebody should fix that. You realize nobody else is going to fix it if you don't".

That is why Barack Obama came into public life; to make a difference in the lives of many. That is why he ran for office without listening to the naysayers; to change Washington and really get things done.

So when the media asks if he is doing too much in these recent days, it just takes me back to that particular video, in where he explained why he was in politics, and why he chose to run (it comes up at about 5:00 into the video, and really throughout).

"In the end, it is a promise that we make to our children; that each of us can make what we want of our lives. It is a promise that his mother made to him, and that he would intend to keep."

For Barack Obama, it is about the world as it is versus the world as it should be, and because of what he sees as the Urgency of Now.

Barack Obama has been nothing but consistent. What he hoped to change, the reason that he ran.....you are seeing him do those things now, and I dare say, he will work hard for the entire time that he is in the office of the presidency.

Too much to report on.
