Statement on the State of your Newly Outraged Media: CNN = Rock Bottom Garbage
CNN: rock bottom garbage
Submitted by drphonic on Fri, 03/13/2009 - 8:30pm.
As someone who worked at cnn for over 8 years I can tell you that the executives there are the most conniving scumbags on the planet & couldn't give a crap about journalism. They exist to sell you a product: whatever their overwhelmingly republican advertisers & masters want. Oh, and fear of course. I'm sure most buzzflash readers are aware of that, but the extent to which they will go to keep progressive ideas out of their newsroom should make any decent American sick. Since they have no ideas, they ASK for suggestions on stories. If, god forbid, your idea has any progressive value, they will ignore it, even denying its newsworthiness. Then you will find yourself being lied about and eventually run out. I guess this garbage is happening all over the country, but don't for a minute think that cnn is an actual news outlet. It is a big business, run by one of the largest corporations in the world. Plain & simple.

1. CNN is not news. We have no access to real news through any traditional medium.
There are a few local papers, and some websites, but by and large we have to be savvy consumers and construct our news by looking at multiple sources and fleshing out the truth.

The slant and agenda is a problem, by the way, on both sides of the political fence (take Politico, HuffPost, et al as examples).

Recommended.

2. So when they play "outraged", one must make it a point of asking
what could be the possible motive behind the outrage?

I think that many of us are not asking that question.....
and I think that is a mistake and it is dangerous.

3. Sad isn't it? Some time ago, Anderson Cooper did an interview
with Norman Finkelstein. When asked if he would grant Cooper the interview, Norman agreed but told him, you'll never be allowed to air it. No shock, CNN never aired it.

4. That's right. They are trying to SELL to us .......
..... and as long as we keep that in mind .... that they'll do what they need to do hold our attention .... we'll be less apt to go mad from anger. :)

Journalistic Integrity is a myth, it always was. And as long as I can have Keith, Rachel and Tweety, and a remote to change it off of Fox, I'm fine.

5. We don't need the fairness doctrine
We need trust busting because of the monopolistic nature of the media.

7. I totally agree with you.
Anyone who has been watching Andrea Mitchell do her thing this morning on MSNBC,
should have picked up on the alarms that I have been trying to sound since Sunday,
here at DU.

There is a reason for everything, including why Large Corporations like GE, Time-Warner,
Disney and NewsCorp are today's leaders for the outraged populists movement.
If we are stupid on this, and take the bait, what happens will be directly our fault.

6. Corporate media is nothing more....
.... than a PR operation for the rich.

Switch on a TV set, and all you'll see is millionaires, talking to millionaires, about millionaires.

They say nothing to us about our lives.

Kill your television. Before it kills you.

8. FC, you constantly complain about the anonymous sources used by Politico when
it comes to WH stories. And I agree with that criticism, given some of the uncorrborated trash they put online and then claim to be a serious news organization.

If we are to believe what they write and air, then they must corroborate stories for us.

So, it's pretty disingeneous to use an anonymous blog poster to make your point about CNN. I think we all know they are corporatized, but basing it on this kind "source" (and I'm using that term loosely here) deflates your argument when it comes to your criticisms of Politico and other news organizations for using anonymous sources.

Frankly, this buzzflash poster could be anyone. It could be Pigboy. It could be O'Reilly. It could be some nutjob freeper. Not really the best example to use to prove your point.

Especially given the OP outlining how Cafferty laid into the GOP bigtime on CNN's website.

10. You are right. I took a free license......
just like our media does....because the comment agreed with my view.
It is a biased nonsourced statement, for sure....

but, many believe our media, and take the bait when it is handed to them,
so since I don't have a corporate motive, I believe that folks can read what I find relevant,
as I have about as much credibility as our media does.

But yes, your point is acknowledged :)

9. i dont think media has a political bias...
the only bias they have is the one for themselves and whatever makes them the most money. they only care about their own self interests. and depending on what party is saying the right things that benefit them, thats the party they align with

11. You are correct. The problem is that the policies pushed by the Republican party
are exactly the ones that tends to favor corporations and their money...
hence they side with the Republicans......because politics for them equals
money.

(or something to that effect)

Turns out they were NOT lying! It's unfortunate- not to mention depressing, however, that they apparently only care about holding Democratic administrations to any level of *accountability* and completely skirt their journalistic *responsibilities* when it comes to Republican ones.
