Kid got a huge round of applause.

Given the deep hatred of policemen at DU, would you have booed?

Deep hatred of police at DU.. I have never seen that. When police behave badly, then there is a strong reaction, but generalized hatred of the police.. never seen it

I haven't noticed it.

And frankly I'm thankful for police. Their job is to keep us safe.

The added bonus for me is that most of my local cops are hot.

No matter what....But, I don't hate all policemen... There are good ones and horrendous ones. The good ones need to do some critical weeding in many cities and forces.

14. No way.
I love cops.

My great grandfather was a "Bobby" in Southhampton, England in the 1850's.

My son was a student cadet with the Military cops when he was a pre-teen. They took him on rides and taught him responsibility & respect of the law.

Most cops rock. :bounce:

20. Amen. Those are the ones who got in it for the wrong reasons.
Or who stay for the wrong reasons.

Most law enforcement officials are great people. They love to solve cases. They love to help the public. They love to protect the public.

They also make the news when they save lives, arrest criminals, and promote public safety.

22. No they don't..
and that's the problem. The broad-brush instinct that is so popular in our society. The worst thing is when the bad asses get slapped on the wrist, or protected from consequences for their abuse. That compounds the issue. 'Over-sight' and 'regulation' isn't just for Wall St.

28. I think that one sailed past at around 20,000 feet....

If a cop beats up a 12 year old girl, he'll make the news.

If he finds her lost and takes her home, you'll never hear about it.

The exceptional and extraordinary makes the news. Mundane reality does not. The news is, essentially, a freak show. But it shapes our perception, or rather mis-perception, of reality.

35. Reminds me of how..
the public views white-collar criminals, as opposed to those that commit petty crimes. A billion dollar fraudster, or polluter is a much more sympathetic figure, often even admired.. than someone..a low-life who boosts cars. Someone's career is ruined for shop-lifting, while a CEO of a mega corporation whose responsible for dumping tons of toxic waste, sickening hundreds of people, walks away with a fine, and their name is not even mentioned in the newspaper. But you can bet their house in the Hampton's is well looked after by the cops, and off-duty cops are lining up to direct cars, provide security for their cocktail parties.

And as far as the OP goes... link?

Of course, any sane person would criticize a "jack booted thug" with a 'tude and a gun, regardless of what that thug called him (or her)self. Duh. That's not the same thing as "hating cops."

30. I've been ticketed exactly twice in my life for moving violations. Once for speeding
and once for making an illegal turn. In both cases, the citing officer expressed a genuine concern for my safety, instead of lecturing me about the necessity of obeying civic ordinances. And they both were extremely polite.

I love cops. God bless 'em.

I won't target all cops with the "jackbooted thug" epithet that rightfully belongs to perhaps 0.0001% of the total force wearing the Blue. Cops rock!

I like to be kept safe.

There really ARE some corrupt cops out there though. Those are the bad guys just as much as the bad guys are, not the honest cops.

Don't paint us all as hating all cops, because that's just not the case. It's the corrupt cops we hate as we all should.
